I specialize in OCD, Anxiety & related disorders.
Finding a therapist for your specific goal is just as important as finding one you can connect with. I believe that a therapist that just listens isn't enough. I am an interactive therapist that listens to and collaborates with you. I provide guidance to help you understand the underlying issues that are negatively affecting your life and contributing to your problems. It is my goal to create a genuine and positive experience so you can develop the skills necessary to succeed, be happy and thrive. If you are not in CA and are searching for an OCD specialist, reach out to me about coaching to discuss if this would be a good fit.

Years of private practice have taught me always to listen carefully to what my patient tells me because no two people, couples or families are the same. My experience in helping people with a wide range of problems has indicated that it is essential to tailor my method of psychological intervention to fit the particular problem, taking into consideration the circumstances and the individual characteristics of each person, couple or family. I view the process of psychotherapy of counseling as a cooperative effort between the therapist and patient.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

Are you struggling in your relationship or wanting a deeper level of connection overall? Talking to someone to help better understand & identify the signals your body is giving you as well as your patterns & defenses, can create positive and lasting change. I also enjoy working with couples - helping partners to understand the underlying dynamics at play in relationships & supporting conscious transformation. I love doing this work, believe it is both beautiful and empowering, and view it as a privilege to work with you. Life is a journey and it can be comforting to know that support is available.

Life throws us all curveballs. Are you feeling stuck, unsure of your next steps, depressed, anxious or overwhelmed? Taking a step forward in making meaningful changes to make more sense of life can be scary and feel overwhelming, so congratulate yourself in this search. We all face curveballs in life and could use help finding the tools to navigate those. In our time together, we will work to understand some patterns you may find yourself in, support in finding some answers that are deep within, and courage to make changes to do better and be better; to ourselves and our loved ones.

We all need extra support sometimes. Therapy can be a place to explore solutions to life problems and to know you are not alone. I strive to create an envirmonment that is safe and non-judgemental so that we can figure out together what needs to happen for you to feel happier and more fulfilled. Through my work, I have seen many people improve their lives and feel better about themselves. In sessions, we will focus on your current situation and explore your past to further understand what may be preventing you from living a happy and fulfilled life.

After many years of independence, you may find yourself responsible for providing care for an aging parent. Your life is full and busy, with families, friends, careers, and local community participation, but you may also feel a duty to support your parents’ well-being during their sunset years. Instead of feeling numb to the stress, asking for help can be rewarding and fulfilling as you care for your parent.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
