My areas of interest are perinatal mood disorders (PMH-C), couples counseling, challenging adult family relationships, women’s issues, depression, anxiety, life transitions, OCD, stress, , and self-esteem issues.
I believe we all have a story to tell. Our life experiences shape who we are and how we think and behave. I feel honored when clients share their stories with me and allow me to help them navigate through these stories to gain a better understanding of themselves and possibly break free from unwanted thinking patterns and behaviors. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of a successful counseling experience and enjoy building these relationships with individuals and couples so we can start working together toward change.

My heart as a counselor is to meet my clients where they are. I believe that we are all on a journey of growth with a desire to improve our emotional health. Every once in a while we get to a place where we feel stuck and sometimes being stuck is painful. That is where a qualified therapist can come into the picture and help you identify goals and process past hurts. I strive to provide a safe place where my clients can work through these issues free of judgement.

Many experiences in life can leave us feeling lost and alone. This often leads to seasons in our life where we experience emotional or physical distress. It is during these seasons where navigating and asking for help can sometimes be difficult. Maybe you're asking "what's wrong with me?" You are not alone in whatever struggle you are experiencing. I'm not here to fix you, but rather to provide a safe place to process, support, empower, and discover what it looks like to live a more authentic life.

Counseling provides a safe place to resolve many of the symptoms of emotional and physical stress related to addiction, depression, anxiety or trauma. Through relationship counseling, people learn how to reconnect after conflict and discover the power of truly listening to others in conversation. Helping people learn how to respond rather than react in close and intimate relationships, resolving conflict through healthy communication.

It can be difficult to take those first steps to start counseling services, and I believe that finding someone who is a good fit for you is such an important part of the therapeutic process. My first priority is always the working relationship that I have with my clients, and my style is very warm and collaborative in nature. My hope for your therapy process is to work together to identify goals, engage in self-exploration, and make the changes that you want to see in your life. I feel that it is my job to provide a safe environment for you to grow and learn more about yourself, and to build trust to begin making those changes!

Starting therapy can be a challenging process, but it can also be life-changing and greatly beneficial. Not knowing what to expect in therapy can cause uncertainty. I hope to ease any concerns by sharing a bit about what it's like to work with me. I view therapy as a collaboration between client and therapist where you're the expert on your life, and I bring a set of skills to facilitate change. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe space where you feel seen and understood. As everyone is unique, I honor this and adapt my approach to best meet your needs.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
