Welcome. Are you ready for the work necessary to make real, enduring change? Do you have a troubling personal issue or suffer from general dissatisfaction? My orientation is to focus on the unconscious, the elusive essence of the problem. A powerful process unfolds when change occurs at this level of the mind. This opens the space for authentic personal transformation.

Ineffective therapy can leave clients feeling hopeless, confused, and frustrated. If you’re ready for therapy that goes beyond endless talking and leads to lasting results, I can help. I love treating clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, faith transitions, stress, weight/body image concerns, PTSD/trauma, and more. I have found that clients who see the best results are those who understand that change takes effort. Effort means confronting truths, sitting with discomfort, and doing your homework. My clients can expect to feel better, more equipped, and more empowered.

Everyone keeps telling you things will get better, but they don't. You feel stuck, broken, like there is something wrong with you, but you don't know how to fix it. Life feels so overwhelming and there are days where it is so hard to just get out of bed. And if you do get out of bed, you just feel tortured and miserable, like you're in your own personal hell. That voice in your head keeps telling you you're not good enough. Do you turn to food or other habits you desperately wish you could change? Do you obsess about weight and body image? Do you hope for relief that you feel may never come? You are not alone.

In therapy it’s sometimes said you must feel it- to heal it, and for couples this can be especially true. I can help you process difficult emotions together and come to a mutual understanding, grow closer as a couple, and improve communication. I can also work with you independently. For the individuals I work with, I promote improving emotional strength, independence, developing confidence, refining assertiveness, accepting responsibility and finding your direction. I can help you to take an objective look at the relationship dynamics you may be trying to navigate and see if solutions can be found that work for you.

Obesity Therapists

Can obesity be a cause of depression and anxiety?

Yes. It can be stressful and debilitating to carry excess weight. Many people make inaccurate assumptions about people who are overweight. This stigma may lead individuals to feel badly about themselves, decreasing their self-esteem, or leading to feelings of worthlessness. An association between obesity and depression is well-established.

When should an individual seek treatment for obesity?

When obesity, or the feelings it causes, creates a disruption in your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Examples include avoiding social situations due to anxiety, an inability to participate in family life as a result of health problems, or poor performance at work due to low self-esteem or other concerns.

Are there specific medications for weight loss?

There are several prescription drugs that can help with weight loss, including semaglutide and phentermine. These drugs reduce appetite and must be prescribed by a physician. Professionals will suggest lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, before turning to drugs, which have side effects and typically are prescribed only for a short duration. Many people regain weight after taking weight loss drugs if they have not made significant lifestyle changes.

What is body positivity?

Body positivity is a cultural movement that promotes the acceptance of bodies of all sizes and types, rather than those that conform to societal ideals of beauty. It places self-worth, self-acceptance, and an appreciation for one’s body as goals to achieve a happier, healthier attitude about oneself and others, focusing on who a person is rather than what they look like.
