My goal is for my clients to feel empowered to become the best versions of themselves and to confidently navigate life's complexities. After the intake, appointments are more loose in structure, where clients are encouraged to bring any topics (whether from the past, present, from the intake, or new) into the space and see where that brings us. I encourage clients to challenge themselves, be present, mindful, and compassionate.

Let's be real - life can be so tough. If you're feeling that way, know that you don't have to figure it all out on your own. I work with couples dealing with cycles of conflict, struggling to retain that early spark (so much gets in the way), or trying to find a balance between major cultural differences or neurological differences (e.g. ADHD, autism). And I use that same relationship lens for individual clients who are trying to improve relationships with others - or with themselves. If you’re ready to look beneath the surface, I can help you understand your emotions and develop new habits - not just think or talk about them.

Waitlist for new clients
Full/waitlist-only for weekly therapy. IADC and EMDR intensives still accepted. You're tired, emotionally and physically. I support new mothers who are up at 3 a.m. wondering why they feel so sad when they thought this was supposed to be the happiest time of their life. I work with people who are grieving and are so tired of being told to “move on” when all they really want is to still feel connected to the person they lost (and yes, we can find ways to do that together). I work with young adults who have lost a parent and feel like no one else understands, and the thought of a college commencement is depressing, not exciting.

I am a licensed psychologist specializing in working with adolescents and adults suffering from anxiety, stress, trauma, and challenging life transitions (in relationships, work, school, and/or changes in family structure). I am particularly interested in working with those who tend to “internalize” their emotions through self-blame and attack, being hyper-responsible, or attempting to maintain control over themselves and their worlds. Along with a relational focus, I rely on evidence-based practices to help you understand the underlying causes of distress and learn new ways to tolerate and manage your emotions.

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
