As an EMDR-trained therapist, I like to view our work as a focused workout for your mind and emotions. Just as physical exercise strengthens your body, therapy helps nurture your mental well-being by engaging directly with the roots of your emotional challenges.

We have seasons in our lives that are filled with stress, anxiety, sadness, guilt, disappointment, grief, and even hopelessness. It can be overwhelming, getting stuck in a place where we cannot see a way forward, unable to change unwanted and repeated behaviors, where no one seems to understand or able to help, feeling frustrated, unmotivated, discouraged, alone, and even ashamed. Or you may be going through transitions, significant changes in work, family, relationships, and are understandably overwhelmed with uncertainty and feelings of loss. If this has been your experience, there is help to walk towards healing and renewal.

Life's difficulties can be overwhelming at times. Reaching out for help is a courageous (positive) first step. I have over 40 years experience as a psychotherapist specializing in marriage and couples therapy, sex therapy, and mental health counseling, working with individuals, and couples. Blame is counter therapeutic and it is not allowed to become a focus of attention in treatment. Rather, emphasis is placed on developing strengths to overcome or manage problems more effectively. A main goal of therapy is helping people identify and access their strengths, as well as empowering them to lead more satisfying and healthier lives.

Hi, my name is Evangelos, but you can call me Evan! At the moment I am practicing through Telehealth only. If this is okay with you, please read on! The foundation of my approach to therapy is person centered and based on genuine human interaction. I understand that not every individual benefits from the same intervention, and it's for this reason I bring an eclectic tool kit, including but not limited to: Acceptance-Based, Mindfulness, CBT, DBT, Emotionally Focused, and Relaxation strategies. My earliest exposure and training in mental health was in Hypnosis, and the interaction between our conscious and subconscious mind.

I work primarily with families, adolescents, children, and young adults who have had very difficult experiences and need a safe, playful, and steady partner to explore the impact of these events on their lives. As an out queer clinician I also work regularly with LGBTQIA+ clients who seek a therapist aware of the complexity of those identities in the world, as well as with parents looking to better develop skills to support trans or queer-identified children. I recognize racism and white supremacy as forms of social oppression that provoke traumatic responses and work accordingly with clients who have been harmed by these systems.

Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t move forward? Like you’re being held down by the past and just can’t seem to move on? You want to take risks and get out into the world but are worried that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. When people ask what’s wrong, you can’t explain it, but you know that your struggles are real. There’s so much that you want to enjoy, but you’re held back because you don’t know if you can handle it. And yet you are expected to continue with your daily life as if there is nothing wrong. But there is hope.

The best part of working in ADHD is that every brain shows up ready to carve their own path. Your refusal to adhere to the status quo is what makes you so special. I'm excited to celebrate you together! Whether you’re a parent raising a child who struggles daily or an adult navigating it yourself, ADHD can be overwhelming, isolating and exhausting. We love to be different, but we hate to be misunderstood. We’ll work together to building self-awareness through CBT techniques infused with ADHD coaching.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
