Through practical and useful strategies, my work is to help parents raise considerate and confident children while promoting responsible parenting .
I am a Humanistic psychotherapist trained within the Rogerian Approach. I am convinced people have the ability to choose what is best for them. However, sometimes they require certain conditions to clarify and identify new ways to manage their conflicts. My work is to promote the discovery of each client's inner wisdom. Specifically, I help my clients re-connect with their true selves, strengthen self-esteem, improve communication, promote behavior change and develop healthy coping skills.

Parent guidance is an important part of treatment and can include suggested readings, instruction on Active Parenting techniques, or personalized behavioral modification plans.
I treat children with a range of emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. Many of the children I see are struggling with sensory sensitivities, picky eating, toileting conflicts, separation anxiety, attachment issues, ADHD, anxiety or fears, selective mutism, depression, social conflicts or isolation, or low self-esteem. Other families in my practice seek treatment to gain support around familial conflicts that present at different developmental stages, or to assuage concerns associated with significant life changes due to divorce, bereavement, or other types of loss.

I have a store of experience with a wide array of patients, with particular focus on issues of anxiety, parenting and those at strained junctures in their lives, moving toward change and renewal.
A clinical psychologist with experience in both hospital settings and private practice, I develop a compassionate and non-judgmental rapport with people. The course of treatment is never doctrinaire or pre-determined, but dependent on the patient's temperament, life history and goals. If a patient is seeking treatment that is more ruminative and exploratory: that's fine. If a patient feels that an active and problem solving therapy holds promise, that's fine too. The essential thread, across any particular approach, is to link the narrative of a patient's life to behavioral patterns and improved choices, which reduces anxiety and heightens fulfillment.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
