I often utilize internal family systems language to increase one's sense of self compassion and sense of agency.
Do you sometimes have a hard time accepting parts of yourself or your feelings that you are experiencing? Perhaps you know what you should do, but just can't do it no matter how much advice others give you. Or perhaps you feel sad, angry or stuck and don't see a way out. Therapy can be a place where you can gain clarity regarding your feelings, needs and desires as well as a place to look at parts of yourself you might be scared to look at. You are never one identity, one feeling, one experience, but rather many all at once. Life is hard, especially under captialism and systemic oppression. You got this, one step at a time.

All of us experience challenging times in our lives that can leave us feeling overwhelmed. The stresses of daily living, whether they are due to marriage, relationships, family , employment, death of a loved one, depression, or anxiety, can be challenging, and it is this that sometimes requires us to seek outside mental health counseling. As a trained and caring psychotherapist, I provide a supportive, non-judgmental counseling environment where I help people to resolve the issues and problems they have not yet been able to resolve on their own.

We all share a common human desire to love, be loved, feel gratified by and successful in our work, and experience a strong sense of connection to the people in our lives who are most important to us. Yet most of us struggle with some or many of these issues at one time or another as the feelings we seek may be interfered with by depression, anxiety, or anger. Diverse factors such as our family background, economic difficulties, losses, life transitions, trauma, addiction, and physical problems may reduce our ability to feel good about ourselves and our lives.

I also offer forensic consultations involving the effects of alcohol and drug-related issues within the family .
Clients who seek my services are interested in making measurable quality of life changes. Emotional distress and conflict can create significant obstacles to psychological and overall well-being. Whether a child, an adolescent, adult, or family , conflict can lead to behavioral problems, abuse of alcohol or other substances, difficulty establishing and sustaining close relationships, and a loss of vision or purpose for one's life. Psychotherapy becomes the process from which a person uncovers conflict, explores barriers, identifies options, and pursues paths of change.

I am trained in several clinical modalities including Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Meditation and CBT.
Although grief is a natural response to loss, for many people learning to adapt to life without their loved one is challenging. When the loss is sudden, traumatic, or the loss of a child, the challenges can be even greater. It can be helpful to work with a therapist who understands grief and can help navigate the emotions and thoughts that accompany the loss.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
