*I am not accepting new clients at this time.* If you've been feeling disconnected from yourself, struggling to resolve difficult emotional and/or relational experiences, trying to figure out what steps to take next, or looking to cultivate more kindness and care in how you relate to yourself and others, I may be able to help. I am an emotionally focused, mindfulness oriented, experiential therapist. I believe a fair amount of our suffering and confusion stems from living with the anxiety, shame, and defenses that prevent us from experiencing who we really are.

What does sex mean to you? Is it about exploring your body and your imagination, feeling pleasure, or connecting with your partner? Many people I work with feel stuck in their sex lives. Some have found that their sex drives are different or that they don’t want the same things as their partner. They may struggle with orgasms, erections, or pain. Others have had past negative experiences that make pleasure and intimacy difficult. As a certified sex counselor and nurse practitioner, I recognize that sexual expression is a reflection of both physical and mental health and I can provide holistic support for both.

The LGBTQ+ population from youth to adults navigate the challenges of being ones-self and accessing safe housing, affirming healthcare, integrating into social circles of family and friends, feeling safe to exist in all spaces they enter, challenging the expectations to be the educator of their identities, and even policing themselves for their own safety and other people’s comfort. I will provide a safe space for folks to show up as themselves, identify concretely their goals and aspirations, consider how they can dictate their environment to become their sanctuary, and take small steps towards becoming their most authentic self.

Currently accepting new clients. Therapy can be a transformational process of self-discovery facilitated by deeper levels of awareness and change. I believe we have an inherent ability to heal ourselves, and my primary focus is to honor and trust your experience. Anxiety, depression, trauma, and other life stressors can interfere with living a fulfilling life, causing problems in your life and relationships, and leaving you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, lost or numb. I believe that therapy should meet the individual where they are within their unique set of circumstances.

Everybody needs to be heard. Everyone craves understanding, connection, and acceptance. When we do not have an outlet to tell our story, thoughts, fears, hopes, and dreams- we risk losing pieces of ourselves along the journey. You may be in a position where you're seeking a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in this life. You may be trying to make sense of disappointments or traumas that haunt you. Many may be looking for emotional healing and a path “back to normal” in a world that feels chaotic, uncertain. Some of you would simply like a sounding board to strengthen existing coping abilities; a refresher, if you will.

My primary therapeutic focus is to help teenagers and adults to develop a stronger sense of self and to develop the coping skills they will need to address issues of anxiety, self esteem and self worth. I use a non-judgmental, trauma informed and holistic approach to help clients develop their ability to self soothe, including using body/movement and grounding techniques. I focus on both personal autonomy and understanding ourselves in relationships, with the goal of moving out of stuck feelings and thoughts to embody a more curious stance of your experiences and the world around you.

How can I find a therapist in Tompkins County?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
