Parent guidance is an important part of treatment and can include suggested readings, instruction on Active Parenting techniques, or personalized behavioral modification plans.
I treat children with a range of emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. Many of the children I see are struggling with sensory sensitivities, picky eating, toileting conflicts, separation anxiety, attachment issues, ADHD, anxiety or fears, selective mutism, depression, social conflicts or isolation, or low self-esteem. Other families in my practice seek treatment to gain support around familial conflicts that present at different developmental stages, or to assuage concerns associated with significant life changes due to divorce, bereavement, or other types of loss.

I have experience working with a broad range of clinical issues: relational/family difficulties, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief/loss, parent /child conflict.
Whether you have been in therapy before or you are just beginning your therapeutic journey, I am so grateful you're here. We carry on our day-to-day lives, hope for change, work hard and at times still feel like nothing is working; we feel like these challenges make it impossible to move past or live the life we intend to live. It is my privilege to work alongside you to provide you the space to experience, examine and process your story, while collaboratively finding ways to not only “just deal”, but eventually, build compassion and thrive.

People come to me with issues concerning relationships, parenting , depression and anxiety, loss, and all of life's challenging situations and transitions.
We all experience times in our lives when what once worked for us no longer does. We may become overwhelmed, anxious, fearful, or angry and are no longer able to ignore those feelings. Instead they get in our way. Talking to someone, especially one who listens to you carefully and joins you in a collaborative and supportive process, is amazingly helpful. People with whom I work note that they begin to feel better and less alone almost immediately.

Possibly STRUGGLING in a RELATIONSHIP with a current or former spouse/partner/co- parent or one of our children, parents, in-laws, friends or colleagues; confronted, at times, with some degree of individual-or-collective confusion, frustration, anxiety, fear, withdrawal, anger, hurt, blame, demand, resignation, capitulation, placating, or sexual concerns.
My Goal: MAKE a DIFFERENCE in Emotional & Physical WELL-BEING, SATISFACTION and PEACE-of-MIND as people navigate the challenges & opportunities of Relationships, Time, Money, Work, Lifegoals (personal & professional), Nutrition, Sleep and Exercise. It is not uncommon for an intelligent, successful person to recognize that their CHOICES, ACTIONS & INTERACTIONS are not always consistent with their BELIEFS, NEEDS or POTENTIAL, occasionally finding themselves stuck, lost or hurting in some area of life, feeling the need for some form of Emotional or Situational First Aid, Repair or Renovation!

It’s okay to have mixed feelings about starting psychotherapy. I will do my best to create a warm, safe environment for us to explore what you would like to change in your life and to accept what is beyond your control. I believe everyone has internal and external resources that they can discover and leverage to help themselves feel better.

Deciding to begin therapy can be a turning point in your life. I work with children, adolescents and adults using supportive and insight-oriented psychotherapy for issues related to adjustment and stress (e.g. anxiety, depression) as well as specializing in conditions that affect the brain (e.g. learning disorders, ADHD, brain injury, memory problems). As a clinical psychologist and a neuropsychologist, I have specialized dual training in brain behavior relationships and take a psychodynamic approach when working with clients therapeutically. I also integrate cognitive behavioral techniques to help my clients meet their treatment goals.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
