Hello and welcome! If you’re here, you’re likely considering making a change in your life to “reroute” yourself, from whatever bumps or roadblocks that might have come your way. It would be a privilege to accompany you on your journey. I don't view therapy as 'one size fits all', and I want to work collaboratively with you to meet your treatment and support goals. You are the expert on you, and I consider my role to provide you with a safe and comfortable space to be yourself. I would love to meet you where you are, and help you get to where you want to be.

I work almost exclusively with those who have experienced trauma as a child or adult, including victims of crime, workplace bullying and toxic environments, women in midlife, those who grieve the loss and illness of loved ones, and individuals struggling with cancer, illness and other disabilities.
Have you experienced the death or loss of a family member or close friend? Have you experienced crime, such as sexual assault or sexual abuse as a child? Have you been harmed by parents, siblings, friends, people in authority, acquaintances and/or strangers? Crime, harm and loss can be traumatic and life-altering. It can feel like there is nowhere safe and no one to turn to or trust. My approach is client-centered, non-judgmental, gentle and nurturing. During our work together you will explore and discover inner strengths and resources that will help you heal and feel empowered.

You've always been everyone's rock but lately it's tougher to carry that weight. You're tired of the cycle of numbing out and becoming even more disconnected. Sometimes it feels like no one knows the real you. You can be your own toughest critic and that inner voice is only getting louder. Our work will help you break these old cycles once and for all. Together, we can create relationships that truly fulfill you: with yourself and others.

My work has focused on gay/lesbian issues, anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, women's issues, relationships, loss and bereavement, anger and conflict, parenting, self-esteem.
A Chinese proverb reminds us, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." It may take courage to take that first step - to contact a therapist. I am an experienced, caring, knowledgeable Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process, in which the therapist and client work together toward the client's goals. I help clients examine and understand their past, their thinking, their feelings, their options. I can provide support and empowerment to help you address your issues and struggles, whatever they may be.

As a therapist, I am warm and supportive while also making sure to hold my clients accountable when necessary.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
