Together we can explore issues related to trauma, substance use , processing grief, learning healthy coping skills, improving communication, resolving conflict, managing anxiety, addressing cultural identity concerns and reducing race-based stress.
Navigating life’s journey can be challenging at times for all of us and yet we are here to learn the lessons that are often unique to our own experiences. If you too are now aware of the need to tap into the power of self-knowledge so that you can live a life that helps you find purpose, fulfillment, confidence and competence, your decision to seek therapy is a natural step in the right direction. My role as a therapist is to assist in the process of helping you heal from the emotional “dis-ease” that can be part of the human experience.

Life isn’t always easy. There are disappointments, struggles, and a plethora of things that overwhelm us. It can be a challenge to feel motivated, connected, and passionate about who you are and what you do. Having someone to talk to, who you can trust and not feel judged by can help refocus perspective, access internal motivators, and explore the opportunities that await you.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, in my 40th year of practice. I see individuals, couples and families. I am a strength-based, collaborative therapist who provides active and direct feedback about your concerns. Because I believe relationships are both the foundation of our health and at times the source of our distress, I attempt to engage in therapy the persons in your life who are invested in your wellbeing and/or who present the most challenge to you in your personal growth and life satisfaction. In addition, I have a specialty focus on trauma treatment and am a fully-trained EMDR practitioner.

Now accepting new clients! Are you zoning out on this page right now hoping the answers to your problems will magically materialize? Scrolling on here in the late hours of the evening because your mind just won’t stop racing? (Caught ya, but you’ve come to the right place.) You’ve been dealing with a lot that life has been throwing at you lately and it’s hard to just keep up, let alone feel like yourself. You’re tired of keeping it all locked up in your head, putting on a fake smile for the people in your life day in and day out while you’re ready to explode from the pressure inside.

Hi there! I am a licensed mental health counselor. I specialize in helping individuals cope with the hardships of everyday life. My passion has always been helping people. I always dreamed that one day I would become a doctor. However, after I was introduced to psychology in college I knew my path was going to change. Being able to make a difference in the way my clients view themselves and the world around them is the most rewarding part of what I do. Psychology and, more importantly, being a therapist is what I love and helping people improve their mental health is why I love it. Sending me an email is the best way to contact me!

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
