loss
, trauma, or loneliness, and can’t find the right words, art therapy may be helpful to your healing process.
Hi there! I’m so glad you found my page. I look forward to helping you navigate whatever might currently be keeping you from feeling fulfilled. Together with my clients, I use a person-centered, strength-based approach to identify and practice coping skills and expand emotional awareness and resilience. “What are we here for, if not for each other” ~ Siddiq. As a global crisis changes life as we know it, we are in uncharted territory. Discomfort, vulnerability, fear and anger are normal responses to an abnormal situation. You may be feeling alienated, anxious, isolated, frustrated, depressed, and stressed. Individually and as a society we are grieving the
loss
of what was “normal” as we adjust to the oft-mentioned “new normal”, and we do not yet know what the future holds. You may be grieving the
loss
of face-to-face social connection, a sense of safety, financial security, or—even worse—the
loss
of loved ones. You are not alone.

I accept clients age 60 and over, younger if they are caring for an elder. Aging can bring the release from the worries and stress of youth, bring joy and possibilities with more free time. It can also bring anxiety about the future, depression,
loss
and
grief
, a disturbing medical diagnosis. I have almost thirty years of experience helping adults and their caregivers navigate emotional changes, trauma, challenges associated with dementia, changes in relationships, health status,
grief
and
loss
. It is my honor to walk with you at this time, and to help you find peace.

In therapy, you're creating space to move with and through
grief
, instead of being barracaded by it.
Does it ever feel like if you start talking about your
grief
, that the floodgates will open & you’ll never stop feeling the overwhelming pain? Do you find yourself walking around in a fog, forgetting chunks of your days, feeling fatigued, and disconnected from yourself & others? Or do you fear slowing down, so you keep yourself active & on autopilot so you don’t have to feel your
loss
? Does the sadness feel crippling, but society & others tell you it’s time to “move on?” Does it still feel surreal that your loved one has died? Does a part of you feel like it died too?

The truth is, life is made up of dark times, which can cause us to feel alone and afraid. At times, there is no one for us to talk to, or we simply do not feel safe sharing some experiences with others. Other times we may feel unheard, unprioritized and or even dismissed by the very ones we love. Moreover, life can be overwhelming and the only solution, we can think of is throwing in the towel. I am here to help.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
