Our approach allows us to work with individuals,
couples
, and families to collaborate and find the strengths that already lie within them.
Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." Napoleon Hill. Every journey of life has highs and lows. The fluctuation of those experiences are what mold us into the people we are meant to become. Although we are each on our own journey, life isn't meant to be traveled alone. Having others around us for guidance and companionship is a natural need. Therapy provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment to foster those relationships and to work on self.

The experience of human emotion is, by nature, incredibly complex. Navigating both the world around us and the world inside of us can feel overwhelming, painful, hopeless, and maybe even impossible. It is okay to feel these things and it is also okay to ask for help. Sometimes the hardest part of moving forward is finding the right person to be on that journey with you. I have a decade of experience working with individuals dealing with all kinds of personal struggles. My specialty areas include trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, and
relationship
issues.

As a family therapist, I work with individual,
couples
, families, and other relationships.
People seek therapy because of the challenges that come to them through times of transition. If you want to focus on healing without having to worry about a third party monitoring your personal struggles and demanding a diagnosis, I am happy to
partner
with you directly, creating terms that we negotiate together. Healing is likely the most important task that you'll tend to in your adult life. I will guide you in that process without pathologizing or labeling you. Becoming the fullest expression of yourself is a worthwhile and deeply personal task, not to be compromised by political systems.

I have 31 years of experience helping people who are hurting change their lives. Often, we develop skills to survive difficult situations -childhood abuse, bullying in school, a bad car accident, sexual assault, an abusive marriage or boss - and it's hard to stop using those old skills, even when we no longer need them. We react in a new
relationship
as if we have to protect ourselves from things in the past. This often leads to more pain and unwanted outcomes. I can help you recognize those maladaptive coping skills. Change is difficult and often scary, but so worth it. I will be there cheerleading you as you practice new skills.

I specialize in LGBTQ+ therapy for individuals,
couples
, and families.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist and Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, I believe that therapy is a journey that can provide valuable perspective and facilitate healing. In my sessions, I aim to create a supportive and safe environment where my clients can work to reclaim their lives from fear, pain, and hopelessness. By exploring the systems, families, and relationships that shape their experiences, my clients can gain insight into their inner selves and learn how to cope with past traumas and current stressors. Together, we can work towards moving forward rather than remaining stuck.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
