Understanding the dynamic of codependency and impacts of trauma(s) encourages adults with whom I work to gain emotional wellness, mindfulness and healthier relationships.
You feel unheard, overextended, and unable to keep up. You're stressed and aren't taking care of yourself like before. You feel anxious and isolated and it's destroying your relationships with others, making work difficult and distracting you from your goals. You've lost sight of your needs and wonder if you will ever feel good again.

I have over nine years’ experience working with folks who have experienced codependency , substance use disorders, and process addictions, including relationship addiction.
I am committed to co-creating a soft, genuine, relational space for my clients to get to know their inner systems. I have a graduate degree in Social Work, and I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have been engaged with the IFS model for over eight years, and it is the primary model I use for psychotherapeutic work. I have assisted as a staff member on three Level 1 IFS trainings, helping other therapists and practitioners learn the model.

At times in life, we are gifted the opportunity to recognize among ourselves that there is room for growth and healing. When you get to this place, it would be an honor to be a stepping stone on your journey. We often don't realize, in the fast paced world, that we have multiple layers that have led us to where we are right now. If things aren't going as you would like, hoped, or dreamed of, lets change your direction towards how you want it to be right now, and moving forward. This starts with you. YOU have the power to change your direction at any given time. If you are feeling stuck, I want to help. I look forward to connecting.

I have 31 years of experience helping people who are hurting change their lives. Often, we develop skills to survive difficult situations -childhood abuse, bullying in school, a bad car accident, sexual assault, an abusive marriage or boss - and it's hard to stop using those old skills, even when we no longer need them. We react in a new relationship as if we have to protect ourselves from things in the past. This often leads to more pain and unwanted outcomes. I can help you recognize those maladaptive coping skills. Change is difficult and often scary, but so worth it. I will be there cheerleading you as you practice new skills.

Life can be a challenging process. You don't have to tackle life's problems alone. Sometimes we need some extra help to be the best version of ourselves. The process begins by identifying barriers that are blocking us from achieving our desired goals. Life is an ongoing journey. Therapy can increase our self-awareness and improve our overall health and well-being. I welcome you - with open arms - to begin the therapeutic process and begin to look at those obstacles in life.

Whether you're an adult, child, teenager, or parent working with me, I offer a non-judgmental space to figure things out. I work with people who feel like they don't quite fit in, who have experienced difficult relationships, challenging parenting situations, and other circumstances. Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
