I strongly believe in the power of relationships to heal and inspire profound growth, when built upon a foundation of co-created safety and liberation. I strive to create a nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where clients can feel free to express their thoughts, feelings, and desires that may be considered taboo in other environments. I have personal and professional experience with supporting those who have been othered and bring authenticity and compassionate curiosity to the therapeutic space. I work to build awareness through exploring personal histories then drawing connections and identifying patterns across the lifetime.

I have 31 years of experience helping people who are hurting change their lives. Often, we develop skills to survive difficult situations -childhood abuse, bullying in school, a bad car accident, sexual assault, an abusive marriage or boss - and it's hard to stop using those old skills, even when we no longer need them. We react in a new relationship as if we have to protect ourselves from things in the past. This often leads to more pain and unwanted outcomes. I can help you recognize those maladaptive coping skills. Change is difficult and often scary, but so worth it. I will be there cheerleading you as you practice new skills.

In therapy we will build upon your own inner strength, and authentic self to process and heal any pain or psychological injuries that might be getting in your way of living a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, that is, we will work together to help navigate and explore any problems or patterns in your life that may be contributing to the challenges that you face. I am not a therapist that will tell you what to do, but I will help you explore your own solutions and answers, which are within you waiting to be discovered.

You have the motivation to evolve, but perhaps you need guidance and insight to heal past wounds and begin embracing who you truly are. Beginning your therapeutic journey can provoke a mixture of feelings- anxiety, excitement, relief, and many others. I am here to help you process these emotions at your own pace. When we are able to connect with our intuition and show true compassion to ourselves, we ignite a beautiful light within. It is my hope to assist you in discovering and nurturing all parts of the complex being you are.

Are you someone who is looking to do more than talk about what's challenging you? I see our work together as a very active collaboration. From the moment we meet, I’m learning from you what we’re working toward, what has gotten in the way, and what supports you in relationships. I try to be direct and transparent about myself and our therapeutic process together. My aim is to make as much of yourself welcome in the room as possible and to make as much of your experience talkable as possible. I offer ideas on how to integrate the work you’re doing in therapy into your life. I help people with many issues (anxiety, depression, transitions, self-concept), with specialties in trauma & LGBTQIA+ health.

Therapy is one of the most difficult and brave steps we can take to unwrite the stories that were told for us. As someone who always heard therapy was for "crazy" people growing up, I know the hesitancy and unease that can come from starting a new therapy journey. It is my goal to help my clients feel safe and empowered as they begin their work. I have been dedicated to creating a space that allows for personal growth through challenging and deconstructing the narratives we have believed about ourselves that are no longer true. Finding our voice in a world dedicated to dismissing it is the greatest strength we can harness.

It is the highest honor to help create a safe space for my clients. I work well with clients who are motivated to do deep level work and learn to sit with emotions & sensations in the body. I have a passion for working with clients who want to learn how & where experiences are held in the body. If you have been in therapy before or been through the same cycle many times, you may find comfort and safety with me. If want to learn to feel safe in your body, I would love to guide. you. I work with clients with an extensive trauma history, as well as challenges in the areas of sexuality, family & body disconnection. We go at your pace.

One beautiful aspect of therapy is starting right where you are. Whether you have engaged in therapy in the past or are looking to try working with a counselor for the first time, I'm here to offer a safe space and company to explore what's happening for you now. We spend much of our lives being conditioned to view ourselves, life, success, worth, and more without priority for our own well being. I invite you to set down those weighty expectations in our sessions and delve into where you fit and feel most authentically you.

I work primarily with people of color and queer and trans folks coping with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues. I combine psychodynamic, relational and mindfulness styles while centering radical self-compassion. I believe that healing and liberation come in many different forms and we will work collaboratively to understand your goals and individual needs. I aim to create an open space, free of judgment, to explore thoughts and feelings you may not otherwise have a place to address. One of the first steps toward healing is being seen and heard authentically and in our work together we will begin there.

For oppressed people to intentionally cultivate pleasure is an act of resistance - Ingrid LaFleur. My clinical identity is supporting clients seeking culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, poly & kink-friendly, and queer-affirming therapists. My intersecting identities offer me the ability to connect with clients that identify as people of color, immigrants, polyamorous, kink-positive, LGBTQ+, or clients who hold identities altogether different than or similar to my own. Curiosity and awareness are the cornerstones of what informs my work as a therapist.

Are you grappling with themes of meaning and purpose? Feeling defined by your past, destined to repeat the same unfulfilling cycles for the unforeseeable future? Maybe it feels like the issue is your career, your relationship, or the city you’re living in. You may also be thinking that if you just lose some weight, get more sleep, make a little more money, or find some adventure, surely then you’d be happy. The truth is that you are not doomed to this kind of unending disconnection and dissatisfaction, nor are you destined to perpetuate the cycles of generations before you.

How can I find a therapist in Syracuse?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
