My work has involved a passion for working with people ( adults and youth) who experience trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief and loss.
*NOT ACCEPTING CLIENTS AT THIS TIME*Hey! So I'm Khira (like Ky-Ruh) and I'm really happy you're here! Have you been struggling with some sadness that won't seem to go away no matter how hard you try? Have you and your partner(s) been struggling to communicate? Family dysfunction getting the best of you? Maybe you've suffered a pretty big loss that you're having trouble navigating. Whatever it is, I want to help you through it. Fears, anxieties and traumas can stifle us. You don't have to be Super(wo)man all the time. Let's figure out how to put your cape down for a bit and take care of the most important person in your life...You!

I specialize in working with college students and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, relationships, and/or adjustment-related issues.
Counseling is about growth and positive change. You may be really struggling right now - maybe you are anxious, depressed, or having difficulty in your relationships. You may be going through a period of transition in your life - even positive life events can cause stress! Maybe you need a little help managing the day-to-day stressors, or maybe you want to improve some other aspect of your life. I work with individuals in all of these situations, and more. We all feel overwhelmed at times! My goal is to provide support, offer a different perspective, and arm you with the tools to manage life's challenges more effectively.

In our work with children, we speak to them and treat them with the same respect that we do adults .
At The Sanctuary, we work with people of all ages. We believe that all people have infinite worth, so before working with us, know that is our view of you and/or your child already. Our clinicians have been classically trained in many of the greats (IFS, CBT, DBT, play therapy, person centered, etc.). With that being said, "Out of all of my credentials as a therapist, my most significant is that I'm a card carrying member of the human race" (Lori Gottlieb). Initially, our aims are to get to know you or your child from a strengths perspective and building a positive rapport.

I have experience with children (12 and older), adolescents, adults and couples.
You're not quite sure what happened or how you got here. Feeling stuck or experiencing life on repeat is frustrating. Maybe you feel like you don't know who you are anymore. Maybe you aren't quite sure where to begin in learning more about yourself or why you are now feeling things you never used to feel. You don’t have to do this process alone. Whether it is the past that is holding you back or a rift in the present, my passion is assisting you through your journey.

I have experience working with individuals of all ages, including children, adolescents and adults .
In therapy we will build upon your own inner strength, and authentic self to process and heal any pain or psychological injuries that might be getting in your way of living a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, that is, we will work together to help navigate and explore any problems or patterns in your life that may be contributing to the challenges that you face. I am not a therapist that will tell you what to do, but I will help you explore your own solutions and answers, which are within you waiting to be discovered.

I work with teens, individual adults , couples, and families with various presenting concerns including but not limited to depression, anxiety, addictions, trauma, relationship conflict, and changes throughout the lifespan.
We all have a story to tell. A story filled with hardships and triumphs, love and loss, and stagnation and growth. Our experiences demand a witness to what we have gone through. I am committed to creating a warm, safe, trusting, caring, and non-judgmental space. This will allow you to be heard but also to challenge you to think or act differently. The systemic and biopsychosocial approach that I utilize will help you to better understand the impact your emotions have on your body and how your thoughts and feelings shape your relationships.

I offer therapeutic services for English or Spanish-speaking older children, teens, adults , and families.
Therapy is about you, your readiness, and your time. It brings up a variety of feelings both positive and negative. It can be a roller coaster ride, but it is up to you to decide for how long. My approach is individualized and client-centered, meaning you are the owner of your story. Throughout the process, you will learn to prioritize your needs in a space that allows you to own your needs and the idea that boundaries are not bad, but rather necessary.

How can I find a therapist in Syracuse?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
