I have over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescent, and adults doing just this. It is an honor to hear my client's stories and aiding them in their journeys.

Despite all of your efforts to make changes in your life, you may still find yourself unhappy and discouraged. One reason for this might be that you have developed ways, over a long period of time or perhaps even more recently, to protect yourself from uncomfortable feelings, threats to your self-esteem and self-worth, or your emotional pain. While these adaptive strategies may provide you temporary relief from your suffering, they ironically also prevent you from changing your life. Not directly facing yourself may feel better in the moment, but it simply postpones the work required to really change yourself and your life.

Maybe you've reached a point where what you've been doing isn't working anymore. You keep showing up for work, relationships, family, or school, but underneath it all you're exhausted. Maybe anxiety has you replaying every conversation, your relationship feels stuck in the same painful patterns, or you've spent so many years taking care of everyone else that you don't know how to slow down anymore. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to keep carrying it alone.

My approach centers on engaging in self-discovery and awareness of your thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns. This internal world influences anxiety, depression, mood stability and reactivity. Therapy is where you can take the time to get to know more about yourself and your needs for well-being.
Many of my clients come to therapy struggling with persistent self-doubt, critical inner narratives, as well as the weight of expectations around identity, care-giving, achievement, and emotional expression. These expectations can distort our sense of self worth, making it challenging to define and meet important self-growth goals.

Maybe you've spent most of your life being the person everyone can count on. You're the one who remembers everything, takes care of everyone else, keeps the peace, and figures things out when no one else does. You've gotten very good at being responsible, capable, and dependable, but somewhere along the way, your own needs may have started feeling harder to hear. Now life is changing. Maybe your children need you differently. You're navigating a caregiving role, a shift in your relationship, or a new chapter that has left you wondering who you are outside of the roles you've carried for years.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
