I will be co-facilitating an
adolescent
female DBT Skills group starting January 2017.
I have been working with clients for over 15 years. I feel most comfortable addressing individual struggles from a strength based perspective. Anxiety, depression and trauma related issues are addressed by utilizing a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as from a Family Systems perspective. This, I believe, allows the client to achieve the most success and a clearer understanding of their own struggles and how to overcome them.

In therapy we will build upon your own inner strength, and authentic self to process and heal any pain or psychological injuries that might be getting in your way of living a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, that is, we will work together to help navigate and explore any problems or patterns in your life that may be contributing to the challenges that you face. I am not a therapist that will tell you what to do, but I will help you explore your own solutions and answers, which are within you waiting to be discovered.

You are the person that people often describe as intelligent, resourceful, humorous, well-liked, talented; an individual that accomplishes whatever they set out to do. You strive to excel at whatever you take on & some may even call you a perfectionist. You can't seem to understand why, or how, you continue to feel stuck, overwhelmed, tense, or perhaps, even sad or hopeless. The facts suggest you possess many of the positive qualities others seem to admire, and from afar, you appear to be someone that seemingly has it all! So why do you continue to struggle in your relationships, work or interests? Why don't you feel "enough?"

The first step to healing is establishing a safe and open space. Once we decide that we are a good fit for one another, I focus on using a somatic approach to healing that consists of body-oriented modalities to connect your body and mind while incorporating talk therapy strategies. After establishing a safe and open environment together, my goal is to help you process situations, feelings, and thoughts to then gain insights and skills to nurture and promote healing and personal growth.

Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.”

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
