Prioritizing your health, both physical and mental, is a sign of strength. I have spent the majority of my career working with survivors of various traumas and felt honored to observe the dedication of my clients to live the fulfilling and healthy life they deserve. Traumas can manifest in unexpected ways: relationship difficulties, depression/anxiety, academic/workplace obstacles, low self-esteem, etc.. I can support you in identifying these trends, processing the underlying causes, and ending unhealthy habits. You can do this; I can help.

For over twenty years, I have strived to provide a safe, quiet space for children and adults to come and talk about the things with which they are struggling. Fred Rogers once said, "All our lives, we rework the things from our childhood, like feeling good about ourselves, managing our angry feelings, and being able to say good-bye to the people we love." This quote is particularly poignant as today's world becomes more and more challenging for both children and adults. My work aims to help others find the inner strength and resilience to navigate whatever challenges they have experienced or the ones that may lie ahead.

You may be someone others rely on. You hold things together, manage what needs to get done, and often keep moving even when something inside feels heavy or unclear. On the outside you appear capable and composed. Internally, there may be stress, anxiety, exhaustion, or a sense that you are carrying more than you can process alone. I work with adolescents and adults navigating periods of high emotional demand; including first responders and their families, individuals managing postpartum changes, grief, illness, life transitions, and those living with anxiety, depression, panic, insomnia, or more complex mental health concerns.

You have a unique purpose and carry unique values. But lately, you have found it difficult to find your path and reach your goals. You feel "stuck". I can help you identify the values that are important to you and give you the skills you need to reach those goals. I work with clients who have anxiety, social adjustment issues, have difficulty being "flexible", and caregivers who are struggling to support those with disabilities and behavioral challenges. I make therapy an active, rewarding choice for every person so that he or she feels safe, supported, and confident in his or her decisions.

I work best with clients who want to be seen, understood, and respected. My role is not to assume, diagnose your life from a distance, or dictate what you should do. What I do best is listen deeply and without judgement. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I believe that as you speak and feel safe enough to tell your story the path forward begins to reveal itself.

I believe that healing and growth begin in spaces where people feel truly seen, heard, and accepted. I aim to create a supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences at their own pace—without judgment. As long as I can remember, people have described me as "bubbly", "outgoing", "friendly" and "warm". It is those character traits that I bring to my work with clients. I have a relaxed demeanor that makes it easy for me to engage clients in a therapeutic relationship.

I believe that beginning therapy is a courageous and positive step for a person to take in their life and I look to welcome each individual into this journey and support them along the way. I want to help clients live a life that brings them joy and fulfillment while supporting them in times where it may feel the opposite. I believe that my clients are capable of more than they believe and there is nothing more rewarding than watching this idea come to fruition in a client’s own mind.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
