My sessions focus on evidence-based practices in mindfulness, stress reduction, trauma, and grief.
Emily Dickinson’s poem “Not in Vain”, hung on my wall growing up and I often think its essence seeped into my being. She wrote, “If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain: If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain”. As therapists, we choose to work within the world of emotions and behaviors, learning healthy techniques to bring balance to our mind, body, and spirit. Counseling is a judgement free setting, with an objective listener; where everyone is welcome and can be supported.

We work primarily with clients who are seeking support in treating anxiety, depression, grief & loss, and trauma.
Life can often be challenging. You may feel you've gotten "off track" and need some direction. You may be overwhelmed with things and don't know what to do or how to make it better. It may be starting to affect your relationships, and you don't know how to stop it. You may be wondering what's wrong with you and why this keeps happening, or whether you're depressed. Perhaps you're having panic attacks that come out of nowhere. Or maybe you seem to have developed social anxiety. Perhaps you just don't feel like yourself or aren't content with your life. You want things to be different, you just don't know how to make that happen. You might be wondering whether you're always going to feel this way. You've got a lot going for you, you've accomplished quite a bit, but it still feels like there's something missing. You're not sure what else to do. Most of us feel this way at some point in our lives. Especially when trying to handle the stress of life, relationships and the impact of certain events all at once.

Therapy is a time to reflect on, and adjust to, life issues. It's a time to explore how your thoughts and beliefs about yourself and the world color your emotional experiences today. Some people know exactly what they need, while others need to gently explore the cause and meaning of their discomfort and emotional pain. My task is to match what I do to this need and serve as a guide along the way. I have been in practice for over 25 years assisting individuals, groups, and families with all manner of behavioral health, relationship, and life problems.

We may work with a variety of issues that include anxiety and depression, grief, end of life issues, chronic illness and pain, existential crises, men's issues, and relationship difficulties.
Therapy should be integrative, meaning it doesn't rigidly adhere to any one approach. It should also be individualized, with your needs always in mind. It may change as you change. I draw from a spectrum of many of the most proven to be effective means of conducting therapy, and with an array of issues. The goal is to address your most pressing concerns.

My approach to therapy is to work through the grief, build self-esteem and confidence and to see the positives that can come from your life.
Unable to accommodate evening appointments at this time. How do you start? It starts with a conversation. The idea that therapy is is about giving advice, a one sided conversation, couldn’t be farther from the truth. Therapy is for you, to let out what’s been holding you back, to figure out how to cope with situations so that you can wake up tomorrow feeling like a better version of you. I want you to achieve your goals through use of talk therapy where we can process your thoughts, feeling and behaviors together.

Working with both adults and teens, I specialize in anxiety, burnout/ job stress, grief & loss, parent/child conflicts, relationship concerns, school-related problems, & existential/ spiritual concerns.
Our minds are incredible tools for experiencing life- and yet , the mind can so easily slip into anxiety and overthinking. Our memories can bring us joy and a sense of identity, but we can also get "stuck" in past patterns & hurts. Therapy is a unique type of relationship focused on your empowerment and growth. We'll work together to create awareness around those mental, emotional, and behavioral patterns. From here, we'll seek ways to implement positive, conscious changes, based on your personal values and desires.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
