We can help you find that balance and a feeling of relief in your life while finding a way for you to manage your family, work, and social networks.
Life can often be challenging. You may feel you've gotten "off track" and need some direction. You may be overwhelmed with things and don't know what to do or how to make it better. It may be starting to affect your relationships, and you don't know how to stop it. You may be wondering what's wrong with you and why this keeps happening, or whether you're depressed. Perhaps you're having panic attacks that come out of nowhere. Or maybe you seem to have developed social anxiety. Perhaps you just don't feel like yourself or aren't content with your life. You want things to be different, you just don't know how to make that happen. You might be wondering whether you're always going to feel this way. You've got a lot going for you, you've accomplished quite a bit, but it still feels like there's something missing. You're not sure what else to do. Most of us feel this way at some point in our lives. Especially when trying to handle the stress of life, relationships and the impact of certain events all at once.

Hi! I’m Lauren. I’ve been practicing therapy for over 14 years and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with so many amazing clients. Seeing the growth and awareness that happens in this process is truly remarkable and rewarding for everyone involved. My clients most often come to therapy repeating patterns that they realize are no longer working for them. Both individually and in relationships. My job is to help you identify patterns, to better understand yourself and to give you ways to adjust while staying true to who you are. There are a variety of ways to do this, and each session is geared exactly to your needs.

Emily Dickinson’s poem “Not in Vain”, hung on my wall growing up and I often think its essence seeped into my being. She wrote, “If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain: If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain”. As therapists, we choose to work within the world of emotions and behaviors, learning healthy techniques to bring balance to our mind, body, and spirit. Counseling is a judgement free setting, with an objective listener; where everyone is welcome and can be supported.

Anxiety, eating disorders, work/school stress, depression, and family trauma don't even begin to scratch the surface of what you can bring to the session when you meet with me.
My goal is to foster a warm and compassionate environment while providing you with the tools to work on and maintain your goals in everyday life. My approach is grounded in CBT and I often utilize different modalities, such as trauma-informed care and strength-based approaches, in order to tailor the therapeutic experience to you and your needs.

Although I consider myself an integrative therapist, I am most influenced by the Internal Family Systems model.
A skilled therapist can help you work through difficulties you may not have been able to overcome on your own. Life is hard; and the challenges, setbacks, & trauma we experience along the way can stand in the way of happiness. But, I believe that a loving connection to yourself & others can buffer stress & perhaps even make life a little easier. How I can help: I am a generalist therapist w/specialties in Sex Therapy, Couples/Marital Therapy, Maternal/Reproductive Mental Health (specializing in perinatal loss & grief), and breast & GYN cancer recovery.

The treatment types I utilize are Internal- Family Systems informed EMDR, EMDR and somatic/embodiment practices and tools.
You’re probably here because you are feeling in over your head. Maybe you are feeling the weight of depression, anxiety, grief or overwhelm. Perhaps you’re struggling in a relationship that is important to you, or you recently lost someone you love. Perhaps you have looping negative self-talk or memories that won’t let you sleep. Or maybe you are going through a life-transition and determined to stop repeating patterns that don’t work. You know you need help, yet you want things to change this time.

Stress and anxiety are increasingly common challenges we face as humans, for individuals and families alike. These concerns may arise from a variety of sources, including relational difficulties, societal pressures, and behavior challenges in children and teens. Having a space to focus on strengths, improve communication, identify tools for coping, and reflect on values, can be integral for not only healing but thriving. Through a warm, collaborative, curious stance, I utilize evidence-based treatments to create improvements in functioning and quality of life.

I look forward to meeting you and/or your family.
I am a full-time practioner, and have been a therapist for over 30 years. I have worked in many different settings. I am not accepting new clients, other than the folks i have already communicated with. Trust is an important part of any relationship. I understand that it is something that is created slowly, and maintained over time. I often serve as someone who bears witness to the stories people bring with them. By listening to those that come to see me, I better understand their experiences and then have an opportunity to assist them to fully heal.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
