How do you get from feeling anxious, depressed, or simply overwhelmed, to feeling good and performing well at your job, with your academics, or in your relationships? By taking two evidence-based treatments (cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy) and adding a warm, supportive, and experienced therapist, the result can be major, positive change. As a therapist who has been working in these modes for over ten years, I have seen these changes first hand, witnessing the personal growth that brings with it a fulfilling life and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you as you build the life you want.

For treating sleep issues and insomnia, I use CBT-I as a short-term intervention (often 6-8 sessions) in order to address unproductive sleep-related behaviors, the impact of problematic thoughts on sleep, and support lasting behavioral shifts.
Welcome! I’ve spent the past 15 years working in mental health and supporting clients through challenges with sex and sexuality, depression, anxiety, relationships & boundaries, self-esteem, and explorations of gender identity. I am affirming of polyamory, LGBTQIA+ identities, and kink. I’m a therapist who values collaboration, honesty, and creating a space where all parts of you are welcome. Clients often describe me as warm, direct, attentive, and easy to talk to. My style is active and curious; I ask questions that invite you to go deeper while also respecting your pace and what feels safe to share.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in behavioral sleep medicine (BSM) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression in adults.
I am extremely well-versed in CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I). CBT-I is a non-drug treatment that is just as effective, if not more effective in the long-term, than sleep medications. CBT-I is the "gold standard" treatment for insomnia, yet there are few qualified practitioners who specialize in this intervention.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
