I specialize in trauma, anxiety,
relationship
/marital issues, grief, depression, communication issues and more.
Our journey through life can be filled with a plethora of emotions and experiences ranging from ultimate joy to the depths of despair. How we handle and move through these phases is heavily influenced by the way we saw our parents and family members deal with it. Understanding the impact of the dynamics of our family of origin can bring about clarity and understanding of how we operate and our worldview. Ultimately, this does not have to define us in a negative way. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I will work with you to identify these influences and patterns affecting your current functioning and work alongside you to process.

Imagine yourself as a writer, carefully crafting the story of your life. What important events and experiences stand out, and what effect does your supporting cast have on you? Is your story unfolding the way you want it to? For most of us, the answers to these questions aren't always clear. We're often too entrenched in our own story to be our own author. Experiences such as navigating a new life transition and developing a more loving
relationship
with yourself can be tough.

Healing from an eating disorder is possible. Healing from trauma, abuse, discrimination, and chronic stress is possible. Depression can be cleared; anxiety can be managed; panic can be eased; overwhelm can be processed. You can grow from where you are right now, and so can your family, your child(ren), and your
partner
(s). Therapy is not a cure, but a private and ethical space that allows for the needed health, repair, and exploration. My goal as a therapist is to be collaborative, honest, and intuitive, so we can figure out together what needs to shift for you (and your loved ones) to change and grow.

Did you grow up with a mother that may have been a narcissist? Do you struggle with codependency and healthy relationships? Lack self-esteem? Do you find yourself wondering how did I end up in another toxic situation? Cognitive therapy is a service that can help you understand how early experiences impact how you go through life. Maybe you need to create boundaries and communication to save a
relationship
where is the time to let go of that toxic person altogether? consider scheduling a cognitive therapy session. You will gain the skills needed to recognize old patterns of behavior, create boundaries and be a healthier you.

In a
relationship
that we build centered on trust and safety, you have a space where you can be more present with yourself and receive tools to be present with even the shame and the shadows.
I believe we are all whole as we are. It's the traumas and losses along the winding path of life that create stories of lack, of not-enough-ness, and of shame, that cloud our ability to feel connected to our whole selves. I believe we can never lose this wholeness, we only forget it when we disconnect in order to survive what we've experienced. In my work as a therapist, yoga teacher, EMDR practitioner, energy healer, and plant medicine enthusiast (mushrooms and Ayahuasca are incredible healers and teachers), I have found that we can always come back home to ourselves when it feels safe to do so.

There is a universal human need for our stories to be told, heard, and understood. Perhaps your story has painful memories that have caused anxiety, stress, and depression to enter your life. Maybe you have yet to understand how to get to the next chapter and feel stuck reliving your past. You are nervous to face these memories and challenges alone and you are ready to try therapy. It is my goal as a therapist to provide you with a safe space to explore and process your past and present stories with the intention to access healing and positive change. I have worked with hundreds of clients in a variety of settings, and over the last 15 years have enjoyed supporting individuals, families, and
couples
.
We all reach points in our lives where we experience increased stress and vulnerability. Regardless of our age, circumstances, or experience, we can feel hopeless and disconnected from the world. This can lead to a number of issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, impulsivity and poor decision making, unsafe behaviors, and even suicidal thinking and behavior. We all deserve to feel good about ourselves, be connected to the people who care about us, have healthy relationships, and be pursuing meaningful life goals, and with the proper support we're all capable of doing so.

Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
