In general, I tend to follow that of a person centered approach utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques as well as Exposure and Response Prevention for severe anxiety .
Often times my clients come to me following a difficult transition in their lives where they are feeling extremely sad, alone or anxious. It may be that they have tried to speak to family and loved ones about their feelings but still feel no relief. Many of my clients have difficulty prioritizing their needs and need some help in finding direction and setting up short term goals. They might even feel confused and hopeless and often develop unhealthy sleeping or eating patterns as a result.

Depression, anxiety , isolation, co-dependency, suicidal ideas, are almost always manifestations of unresolved Trauma. Sadly, trauma is all too prevalent in our world, and people often believe they have little power to overcome it. Medication to reduce symptom intensity is important in a crisis. Its value in these moments is unparalleled. But while it can suppress your symptoms, it does not heal you in the long term. Have faith that you are RESILIENT! You have amazing strength and an inner healing intelligence. My role will be to guide you through the healing process so you can begin to live with self-love and hope.

I help people who feel overwhelmed and stuck gain clarity and perspective so that they can live their lives with freedom and passion. Life seems to be going along so well, then for no particular reason, you feel that buzzing of anxiety or the overwhelming feeling of depression. You feel it in your body and your soul. You can’t quite put your finger on what’s wrong and that’s when the overthinking starts. It’s a cycle that you want to finally put an end to. I use evidence-based therapy practices and a coaching model to help you move into the future with confidence and ease.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with nearly twenty years of experience treating children, adolescents, young adults and adults. My clients often come to therapy looking for relief from anxiety , depression, trauma, as well as pervasive negative thinking patterns and behaviors. These issues adversely impact the quality of day to day functioning and interpersonal relationships. In therapy, we work together to understand the root cause of the identified issues. This greater understanding helps us identify which coping mechanisms may be used to improve daily functioning.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
