I have provided psychotherapy to adults experiencing depression, anxiety, grief/loss,
family
difficulties, and academic struggles, and prefer to take a collaborative approach specific to any concerns that you might have.
As a clinical psychologist specializing in relationship difficulties, I have worked with many individuals who struggle with conflict in their intimate relationships, experience fears about closeness or intimacy, feel anxiety about relating to others, and those who have trouble feeling generally satisfied in their relationships. I believe that dissatisfying relationships contribute to emotional stress and pain, and that promoting stronger, healthier relationships can lead to people experiencing happier and more productive lives. I work with individuals to explore these struggles and develop understanding or insight about their patterns in relationships, with the ultimate goal of helping people have a different experience in their current relationships.

My specialties include issues of loss and trauma, depression, anxiety, medical concerns, life changes, and stressful
family
or workplace relationships.
When things are difficult, it can isolate us, drain our emotional reserves, and limit our ability to look at things in new ways. I work to help clients appreciate the depth of their experience, and support them toward personal strength and healthier relationships. My style is open, collaborative, direct, and supportive. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years in private practice. I also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Rochester's Counseling Center for many years.

I am a Licensed Marriage and
Family Therapist
who specializes in treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I provide psychotherapy or psycho-educational therapy for those with or without ADHD, serving individuals, couples and families seeking treatment. People get tired of feeling frustrated and stuck in ways difficult to explain, yet can feel motivated by an empathic approach that helps develop ways to support cognitive, emotional and behavioral factors that impact their decisions. When stress becomes easier to manage, the hope for a more balanced and manageable life can begin to materialize.

Effective therapy develops goals for change. Treatment also supports establishing new ways of experiencing life, behaviors and relationships. My private practice emphasizes making change through openness and trust, and building a personal plan that suits your unique life circumstance. There is no prescription for the length of therapy; some changes can occur with a few sessions and others may taken longer. Having realistic goals can help define when therapy is completed. Some individuals and families need help handling scary situations. Sexual behaviors and trauma are frequently misunderstood and can cause shame, guilt, and fear. I offer a space free of judgement in which to better understand behavior, trauma, impulsivity,
family
dynamics, attachment, and sexuality. These issues effect
family
and relational functioning and can result in high-conflict
family
dynamics. If you have lost your sense of self or sense of
family
, I am here to help you make a path back to yourself and each other.

Each individual/
family
is approached with a personalized format to meet their unique needs.
My goal is to join people where they are in their journey and identify the areas they would like to move through. The process of facing pain and being overwhelmed can be daunting, but it doesn't have to be faced alone. Together we focus on finding healthy and effective strategies to address the pain and stuck points that will lead to a more fulfilling and balanced life. Goals include increasing awareness of symptoms and healthy ways to address, establishing healthy relationships and interpersonal patterns, managing emotions, and healing.

If you're struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression,
family
conflict or child issues, you don't have to do it alone anymore.
You deserve to be fully seen, and are worthy of being held. Reaching out to a therapist and finding the right fit can be a daunting task, but I hope you will take a deep breath and a moment to connect to have your questions answered. Relationship issues are so hard, even when they're going well. If you find yourself in the messiness of painful
family
history, attachment issues, big and unmanageable feelings, and are struggling to thrive, make meaning, and be graceful with yourself, believe me-I can relate. It's not too much to ask to heal your inner child by confronting the past that continues to show up in the present.

Feeling stuck? Wishing for change? Fear of the future? We go through struggles that test our ability to find joy and experience pleasure. It is often our relationships with friends,
family
and especially our partners that take the brunt of these taxing times. It is common that our intimate relationships get tagged as the reason for our hurt and pain or are the most negatively impacted. Blame can drive a wedge and damage intimacy. Ironically, it is within our intimate relationships that we find the majority of our most meaningful experiences. Experiences that result in feeling that joy and pleasure we so desperately desire.

Everyone needs a different perspective at one point or another. I invite you to bring your old strengths into a new perspective to improve current issues you face in your life. You may come to gain a viewpoint outside of your current network of friends and
family
, and to take a look at your own perspective. By gaining new insight, you will find ways to make positive change and cope with whatever it is you carry with you through the door. Together we can, through talk therapy, explore how you can become the healthiest you.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
