I graduated from Pace University with my Master's Degree as a Licensed Mental Health Therapist and
Substance
Abuse Counselor. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy as each individual has specific treatment needs as each person's experiences and the emotional impact of those experiences are unique to that individual. This is why my theoretical approach is humanistic and client-centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Adler, and Gestalt.

I possess over 10 years of clinical experience specializing in psychotherapy, life coaching, and
substance
abuse counseling.
Let's face it. To seek personal mental help presents to be very challenging. It takes a lot of courage to address deep rooted issues and complex life situations. The reality is that many don't know where to begin. Is that you? Some enter therapy to address major life changes, losses, difficult relationships, even
substance
abuse. Others may seek therapy to help manage mental health conditions. Some may have personally identified life goals that they want to achieve but need a guide on their road map to success.

addiction
, to name a few.
Therapy can feel broad and overwhelming. To simplify our approach, we'll seek acceptance and control of adversities that seem to dictate your life. I have experience in
addiction
/
substance
abuse counseling, managing anxiety and depression, and OCD, as well as exploring and understanding difficult family dynamics.
Hi, I’m Erin! While life can be absolutely beautiful, it can also be difficult to feel contentment and notice the joy when you are overwhelmed with anxiety, doubt, and negative beliefs about yourself. It can feel comfortable to stay stuck in a pattern that is not serving you, but I’m betting that you’re becoming more uncomfortable with staying the same than you have in the past. While working together, you will learn how to navigate difficult thoughts that promote hard feelings. You will obtain skills to self regulate and accept things outside of your control, while becoming familiar with healthy boundaries that promote balance.

Struggling with
substance
use disorders can often be lonely, isolating and confusing. There is a lot of help offered out there, but so often what's being offered can be confusing and conflicting. Is
addiction
a behavior? A spiritual malady? A disease? Or is it something more? My own path of recovery took me many attempts and eventually led me to school to seek the science behind
substance
use disorders, to recovery rooms, to many therapists for personal recovery, and to lots of different religious avenues in search of meaning and understanding. What I found has illuminated my own path and practice. I love to pass these insights on.

I use several schools of knowledge to inform my practice, including psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and cognitive therapies, Buddhist, Taoist and existential philosophies, and
addiction
recovery.
Psychotherapy can help us understand ourselves, our histories, patterns and relationships. It is a tool that can increase clarity and direction so that we can move more confidently in the world. We are a complex mixture of our experiences, the relationships most significant to us, what we think about ourselves, the stories we tell ourselves, and how we view our purpose or place. With this in mind, I aim to do a few specific things in my therapist role: To think about how we have come to be *who* we are, to accept this, and to create space within ourselves where we might exercise new or different ways of being.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
