I believe that every person can benefit from the support of a trusted helper. As we move through life and experience transitions, challenges and struggles, a person with tools, perspective, and confidence is well-equipped to move forward and to heal. While we cannot change what has happened to us, I believe in healing, growth and resilience. My clients present with a broad range of challenges and are ready to walk alongside a supportive therapist as they make changes in their lives, develop important skills and work towards becoming the best versions of themselves.

I rely on my training in
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Therapy, and Mindfulness Based practices to treat concerns about anxiety and mood problems, stress, parent/child conflict and parenting problems, school issues, adjustment challenges, and grief, loss, and trauma, amongst others.
Everyone has challenges in life and sometimes having the support of a therapist can provide extra support, knowledge, and tools that can help ease the struggle. I think every person and every family is their own expert and I would like to partner with you to share what I've learned about approaching problems in ways that can feel more tolerable. Collaborating (with permission) with medical, school, community, family, and other supports ideally provides information and wisdom to support a child and family through change or challenge.

Specifically, the therapeutic styles that I utilize are Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT),
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Therapy is a unique experience and I believe that we as humans are most balanced when we feel safe and understood, non-judgmentally. As a bilingual therapist (English and Spanish), I strive to ensure that clients are provided the space to effectively express themselves in a way that makes sense to them. I have experience working with children, teens, families, and couples who can be experiencing challenges with life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, or simply would like a neutral person to talk to.

I use a very practical, yet profound, approach called
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy (
ACT
) and other therapies based on mindfulness, compassion, and CBT.
Hello! If you struggle with thoughts that keep "recycling" and emotions (or emotional numbness) that keep you stuck in old patterns and unsatisfying relationships, you are not alone. Most of us have never learned how to deal with painful, insistent thoughts, memories and feelings. I have over 17 years of experience helping my clients learn and integrate ways to move beyond depression, anxiety, anger, shame, and trauma. You bring your longings, and I bring deep respect for your experience and values, as well as abiding hope (and a touch of humor). Together, we open a path to a life full of meaning and fulfilling relationships.

I'm a zen practicing therapist+musician who loves working with people on their journeys to healthier relationships and becoming their most authentic selves. I was raised fundamentalist and spent my childhood learning fire and brimstone theology and memorizing verses from the King James Bible. Needless to say I chose to leave the "sinners in the hands of an angry God" mentality behind when I grew up. The truth is, being hard on ourselves doesn't help us or anyone else. But compassion, love,
acceptance
and presence connect us to who we really are, and who we can become.

As your therapist, my goal is to tailor evidence-based treatments (CBT, DBT,
ACT
) to your unique needs, and equip you with new skills to reclaim your life from anxiety!.
Anxiety can show up in so many different ways. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed by worry or self-doubt. Constantly feel the need to be perfect but rarely feel good enough, or feel like an imposter no matter what success you achieve. Maybe you're struggling with OCD and experience upsetting intrusive thoughts and compulsions. Or maybe you're feeling socially anxious and have a persistent fear of being judged by others. Whether it's OCD, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, or other types of anxiety these experiences can be so painful and make it difficult to fully enjoy and thrive in your life. Well, I'd like to help.

We all have a story to tell. A story filled with hardships and triumphs, love and loss, and stagnation and growth. Our experiences demand a witness to what we have gone through. I am committed to creating a warm, safe, trusting, caring, and non-judgmental space. This will allow you to be heard but also to challenge you to think or
act
differently. The systemic and biopsychosocial approach that I utilize will help you to better understand the impact your emotions have on your body and how your thoughts and feelings shape your relationships.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
