Less than 7% of mental health professionals are black or African American, making it vital for me to show up in a space that is underrepresented. As a BIPOC therapist, I provide culturally competent and inclusive care to all of my clients. I have helped countless clients dealing with anxiety, depression, loss & grief , and PTSD. Many people experience loneliness and difficulty finding and prioritizing themselves. If you are struggling with finding your value and your voice, then this is the space for you. Allow yourself to see the strength in who you are and how wonderful you have yet to be.

Hi, I'm Jenny. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed or deeply concerned about life situations, change, or a loss . Maybe you don’t even know how you feel but know it is time to reach out for help. Maybe you are missing something in the past or feeling not up to the future. You are not alone in this. These moments are some of the most important in a life, and it is easier to face them with support. That is where therapy can start. “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” -Carl Rogers.

I work with a variety of people whose active, creative lives have been interrupted by depression, mania, anxiety, mourning , and trauma. Psychotherapy with me is a process of guided expression. Thoughts and feelings, dreams and fantasies, desires and fears are given voice -- loud, clear, and without judgment. The experience of formulating authentic verbal and emotional expressions can be transformative in and of itself. Also, as patterns in your way of being become clear, you can begin to consider alternatives, find courage to change, and experience what is commonly known as freedom.

Sometimes the best thing you can give yourself is the chance to be heard, tell your story and share your experience. In the current climate it may be especially hard for you to find the support you need. Maybe you have experienced trauma that seems to affect your work or relationships. Daily stressors can compound and impact your wellbeing, leaving you feeling distressed, anxious, irritable, depressed or overwhelmed. I aim to help you gain new awareness about your feelings and how they relate to current challenges or past experiences, leading to a sense of relief, improved self-acceptance and even curiosity and excitement.

I work with teens, young adults, and couples to explore the life experiences that have brought them to the present moment. I also enjoy working with artists and creatives to help uncover deep-rooted issues that prevent sustained contentment. Each person comes with their own unique history which shapes how they perceive and respond to the world around them. As an eclectic practitioner, I use a psychodynamic, humanistic, and mindfulness-based approach to help you look back in order to move forward. The goal of our work together is for you to find grounding and fulfillment in your life and relationships.

I deeply believe in our innate drives toward healing. At times we need support to find our way along this path; this is where therapy can help. I employ a collaborative approach to develop curiosity and compassion for one’s whole self. In therapy we tune into the body’s wisdom, foster acceptance of our present selves, and reshape narratives of our past.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
