I have seen that in difficult times couples and families get stuck, repeating the same solutions to the same problems, and nothing changes. The short-term, solution focused work I do, helps break these unproductive patterns so that new, more hopeful aspects of ourselves and our relationships can emerge. Research has shown that couple and family therapy is a most effective treatment for many problems, including depression that seem to be localized within the individual. The effectiveness of this work stems from its focus on changing aspects of relationships that trigger and reinforce the individual problems we bring to therapy.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. The work I do with people in relationship is informed by the psychodynamic work I have done with individuals in the past. Family Therapy is also beneficial in helping people through difficult life transitions, like divorce, step family issues, bereavement and illness.
I not only practice this form of therapy, I also teach it. I am a faculty member at the Minuchin Center for the Family, NYC, former faculty member at N.Y.U. School of Medicine, and consultant to Mental Health Agencies, Drug Treatment Facilities and Hospitals in Upstate New York.
