No one aspires to be in therapy indefinitely. My clients walk through the door bearing similar worries, but their real concerns often differ from their initial perceptions. They express desires to "fix my anxiety," "solve my depression," or "quit smoking marijuana." What they're truly communicating is, "I want to flourish, I want to deepen my relationships with those I care about, and I'm weary of these issues."

My approach is informed by psychodynamic and cognitive/behavioral therapy, including dialectical behavioral therapy.
Are you struggling with anxiety, sadness, feelings of loneliness or emptiness, or substance use? Are your relationships with family, friends, or others important to you being strained or affected? Are you having problems getting things done in your daily life? If so, you are not alone. For the past 20 years, I have been working with people from diverse backgrounds with unique circumstances, just like yours. I have learned that the quality of the relationship people have with their therapists is often the most important factor in helping people make the changes needed to improve their lives.

I work specifically through an integrative orientation with an emphasis on psychodynamic, relational-cultural, existential, feminist, social justice, and attachment frameworks.
Have you been contemplating exploring yourself in a deeper way? Do you feel as though you are being blocked in understanding yourself or working toward your goals? I specialize in helping individuals get to the root of what is going on through self-exploration and gaining insight. I approach my work with individuals through a nonjudgemental, open, curious lens. I prefer to view my clients as "fellow travelers", as we are both on this journey together. No one person is immune to the struggles of human existence. I have experience working with college students and adults. I value the unique aspects that each individual brings.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, exploring the connection between past and present experiences to foster deeper self-awareness, uncover patterns, and create lasting change.
Who am I? What is my purpose? Who do I want in my life? What do I stand for? Why am I here? When we consider these questions, along with countless others branching from these, you might find yourself overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or frustrated. Attempting to navigate this process, you may face societal expectations, dysfunctional family dynamics, economic challenges or other stressors operating against you. While the desire to be stable, authentic, and true to self is shared, your story will always be unique.

I work heavily from a psychodynamic perspective; (basically getting to the root of the problem); which often stem from family of origin problems or trauma.
Do you have low energy but you're not sure why? Do you live in a constant state of worry? Or perhaps you make goals for yourself but have difficulty reaching them. Maybe relationship issues? You want to solve these problems and to feel better, but it seems like nothing that you try works, at least not for long. I want to help. Together we will work to find what is blocking your success and find new strategies that work for you. You may be dealing with an undiagnosed mental health issue, or unrealized internal conflicts that need to be resolved. Uncovering these things take the help of a mental health professional.

I offer a warm, flexible approach rooted in CBT, psychodynamic, and supportive therapies.
You hold it all together, but inside you're overwhelmed, anxious, or just plain tired. I also support single women doing the inner work while dating and healing past wounds. Therapy with me is warm, collaborative, and insight-driven—so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
