I help individuals and couples who are at a crossroads find clarity and confidence.
My style is existential and interactive. With individuals, I listen to understand, challenge to guide growth, and assign homework to continue the work outside of appointments. With couples, I help shift unhealthy patterns, deepen intimacy, and improve communication. With individuals, we focus on clarity, purpose, and living in alignment with your truth.

Finding a therapist that you can connect with can be difficult, but it is vital to the therapeutic relationship.
Have you ever just wanted to stop? Have you ever wanted to stop managing other peoples problems for them? Have you ever wanted to stop accepting a sub-par standard for the way that you live your life? I have spent my entire career helping those that are brave enough to have the courage to stand in their truth. I have spent countless hours helping people like you, DO IT YOUR WAY -with no apologies. Your mind is your temple and you decide who worships there by recognizing the entities that are undeserving of your energy. The hardest part is over because your transformation begins now!

I use Gottman, Tatkin and Imago methods (to name a few) with couples (and singles) seeking help with relationships.
Sometimes on our journey we need an objective guide. I can help you manage problems involving "big feelings” that otherwise overwhelm. If your goal is to start getting new results for old recurring problems we can do that with compassion and curiosity. It is important to explore our personal history to understand why we think or behave the ways we currently do. While personal growth isn't always painless, you don't have to be alone in the process if you have a therapist who will commit to the process along side of you. I can help you gain new perspectives that will get you to solve problems effectively.

I work with individuals, couples, and families and help develop better coping skills and ways to get along more productively.
Do you, your boyfriends, girlfriends, spouses, or family members disagree about too many things, communication styles, control issues, do you argue too often? Do you struggle with low self-esteem, self-doubt, depression, and anxiety? Perhaps you, a friend or family member drink too much or have a drug problem, financial inequities, impatience, short temper, or anger management issues. Do you feel manipulated or coerced or that your wishes or your feelings are discounted and rejected by others? Are there too many upsets in your own day or do others make your days more complicated?

It's about forming a positive working relationship and getting things done- then getting on with your life.
I belive in a back and forth. Characteristics of my personality include: warmth, humor, compassion, conversation, education and inspiration. If you don't leave a therapy session feeling like you've accomplished something, it's a waste of time. That's not how I operate. When I attend my own therapy sessions, the hour flies by! My clients would say the same.

I believe that the effectiveness of therapy done with my clients is directly related to the quality of the relationship between me and my clients.
My name is Jack Stell. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP). I am a Navy veteran - 12 years on four submarines. I am also a survivor of both post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). My personal experiences and recovery give me a unique perspective and a distinct advantage when working with clients who have had similar experiences. My life and the lives of most of my clients are living examples showing that the effects of trauma and TBI can be reduced and often eliminated.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
