Therapy can be a space to slow down and reconnect with yourself, especially the parts of you that may have been silenced, criticized, or pushed aside in order to get by. I approach therapy with deep care and genuine curiosity, offering a supportive and nonjudgmental space to explore your experiences, emotions, and inner world. Together, we’ll work toward creating room for healing, self-understanding, and meaningful change, so you can show up more fully and authentically in your life. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, identity exploration, relationship concerns, and life transitions.

Breaking Generational Cycles! Casey has a toxic family (eek!) and they want to make sure the cycle stops. In therapy they have a private space that’s entirely theirs. They have someone who actually listens and doesn't interrupt or talk themselves. They don’t have to filter what they say, manage anyone else’s feelings, or worry about being “too much,” “too sensitive,” or “dramatic.” Together, we focus on what’s underneath the anxiety and repeating patterns, helping Casey understand themselves and approach relationships with greater clarity and intention. This ultimately stops the generational, toxic cycle.

You might be someone who seems to have it all together, but feels overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck. Maybe you're struggling to move forward after an abusive relationship, dealing with family, coping with grief, or noticing relationship patterns that you want to change. Even when you know something needs to change, figuring out how to move forward can be difficult. As a therapist of Latino heritage, I can also understand how culture, family values, and societal expectations can shape these experiences, as well as the way we see ourselves.

My specialties include the treatment of depression, anxiety, destructive and self-defeating behaviors, and the many unique forms of inner anguish that defy categorization. Within my scope, as well, are the compelling problems generated by situations that were once somehow manageable for the client but have suddenly become overwhelming - a failing relationship, an escalating parenting or school problem, increasing reliance on substances, and others. I have much experience, as well, treating the range of symptoms that commonly accompany significant life changes or transitions such as illness, personal losses, post partum depression, and the impact of aging.

Maybe you've reached a point where the life you've built no longer feels quite right. You may find yourself questioning your career, relationships, identity, or what you want your life to look like moving forward. Perhaps you're navigating a major transition, feeling stuck in familiar relationship patterns, or struggling with anxiety and uncertainty about what's next. You may also be rethinking a religious or spiritual upbringing that no longer feels like the right fit.

I also write letters of support for gender-affirming surgery.
Living in a world that feels violent and marginalizing is exhausting. Often, it can sap our ability to look beyond survival and toward our values and sources of meaning. I understand how building resilience feels even harder when our social environment doesn’t support us to live authentically. I might be a good fit for you if you’re looking for a space to explore your identities and your relationships with your community, or to manage feelings of depression or anxiety within a larger ecosystem of limited choices.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
