I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, substance use disorders, mental health conditions, life transitions, and relationship challenges.
I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based interventions. I recognize that spirituality and faith can play an important role in healing, and when desired by the client, I welcome the integration of spiritual and religious beliefs into therapy.

I will work with you to gain insight into what might be holding you back from having a more fulfilling life. Together we will set goals. Feeling better about oneself involves recognizing one's value and letting go of unrealistic expectations of self and others. I will support your efforts to become a better advocate for your own needs. My patients trust that I care about their struggles and they are comfortable talking about their concerns knowing I am listening attentively in a non judgmental manner.

I provide an opportunity for people to freely express their feelings and thoughts to achieve the changes they desire. I work interactively with clients so they may develop their strengths and achieve their goals. Assisting individuals in becoming at ease with their feelings, however difficult they may be, is an important aspect of the work I do. Feelings can become useful tools for living rather than disturbing impediments. The ubiquitous problems of uncomfortable feelings, harmful behaviors, and the challenges of relationships, careers and parenting are common areas of focus.

You may be holding yourself together on the outside while quietly unraveling inside. Perhaps you’ve been navigating overwhelming stress, cultural pressure, identity confusion, or a deep loneliness you can’t quite name. Maybe your mind rarely feels quiet — constantly racing, overthinking, scanning for what might go wrong. The weight of anxiety can feel exhausting and invisible at once. I hope to accompany people like you — those at a crossroads, questioning, hurting, or simply longing to breathe more freely in their own skin.

My specialties include the treatment of depression, anxiety, destructive and self-defeating behaviors, and the many unique forms of inner anguish that defy categorization. Within my scope, as well, are the compelling problems generated by situations that were once somehow manageable for the client but have suddenly become overwhelming - a failing relationship, an escalating parenting or school problem, increasing reliance on substances, and others. I have much experience, as well, treating the range of symptoms that commonly accompany significant life changes or transitions such as illness, personal losses, post partum depression, and the impact of aging.

During our first session, you can expect us to get to know one another. I will take time to learn about your concerns, personal history, strengths, and what brings you to therapy. Together, we will discuss your goals, identify areas you would like to work on, and begin developing a treatment plan that reflects your individual needs. You are welcome to ask questions about the therapy process at any time, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
