I have training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, and advanced psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adults, adolescents, children, families, and couples.
Perhaps this is the first time you have searched for a therapist and are simply not sure where to start; or perhaps you have met with therapists in the past yet still find yourself wrestling with such stubborn difficulties as depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, or self-sabotaging behavior. No matter your history with psychotherapy, current predicament, age, race, or gender, you can feel confident that I will welcome you into treatment with basic compassion, professional competence, and a deep sensitivity to the specific circumstances motivating you to seek help at this time.

Ezra sits on the edge of his bed staring at a photo on phone. Mornings hit the hardest. That brief moment before he remembers they’re gone. He moves through his days on autopilot, smiling when expected, speaking when required, but inside, he feels like he’s unraveling. At his age he thought he would be stronger, but his grief lingers like a second skin reshaping everything. He’s scared of forgetting their voice, their laugh, the way they made him feel safe. The world moves forward, but Ezra is suspended in memory, holding the photo as if it can keep the past from slipping away. The world keeps moving, but Ezra is stuck.

The curious paradox is when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. What I am is enough if I would only be it openly.' C.Rogers. This quote is at the core of my work as a psychotherapist. I believe that the path to healing begins with the experience of being truly seen and celebrated with all your identities and parts that make the whole of you. I offer an affirming and collaborative space for the exploration of Self, connecting to your Divine within through mind-body-spirit practices so that you can move beyond the unloving narratives getting in the way of embodying your true Self and curating the life that you envision.

My specialties include the treatment of depression, anxiety, destructive and self-defeating behaviors, and the many unique forms of inner anguish that defy categorization. Within my scope, as well, are the compelling problems generated by situations that were once somehow manageable for the client but have suddenly become overwhelming - a failing relationship, an escalating parenting or school problem, increasing reliance on substances, and others. I have much experience, as well, treating the range of symptoms that commonly accompany significant life changes or transitions such as illness, personal losses, post partum depression, and the impact of aging.

With more than 10 years experience, I offer an integrated approach of contemplative psychotherapy and psychoanalytic thought.
Psychotherapy is a practice of deep listening and understanding. I help people develop insight into their troubles and look into habitual patterns that may create obstacles to their life goals. Together, we identify these patterns, explore feelings, and put effective coping skills into practice. When working with children, my approach invites the family in. Parent coaching, which involves a neurobiological understanding, and psychodynamic insight are integral. Through play therapy I help children discover ways to communicate their experience. The purpose is to establish a connection that encourages growth and the sense that children have a positive impact in their world.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers deep empathic understanding and useful insights that can be grounding and freeing.
The enormous number of stressors we face daily now are intense: domestic and global instability, the economy, the climate, overwork, loneliness. All of this is tremendously difficult to manage on one's own. More: anxiety, anger, depression, resentment, boredom, sadness, rage, exhaustion, denial. If you're struggling with any of this – or other situations that often bring people to therapy, like relationship issues, lack of direction, feeling overwhelmed – it's worth investing the time and effort to get help, get grounded, and find a better path forward.

My orientation is primarily psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, although I employ other approaches, such as mindfulness, cognitive behavioral, and self psychology interventions, where appropriate.
In addition to addressing anxiety, depression, relational problems and a host of other psychological issues, psychotherapy offers a means for deepening insight into motivations and the workings of the mind. It provides an opportunity to change behavioral patterns to facilitate an engagement with the world with increased security and freedom.

I use an integrative psychoanalytic framework while incorporating elements of existentialism and tailoring the work to your unique needs.
Many of the clients I work with come to therapy carrying a quiet heaviness, whether it’s anxiety, self-doubt, disconnection, or the feeling of not quite belonging in their own lives. They may be in the midst of a life transition, asking big questions about who they are, or simply feeling worn down by the weight of expectations. Sometimes, they’re searching for clarity or direction; other times, they just need a little accountability or someone to truly listen. More than anything, they want to feel more like themselves: grounded, understood, and whole.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
