Life is full of transitions and it's difficult to deal with the day-to-day challenges of family, work, school, health, or grieving a loss. The help of a professional counselor may be necessary to get through some of these moments. I use a Person-Centered technique to create a safe space for you to tell your story. I have over 15+ years of working as a Human Resource Professional and I have seen how workplace bias impacts an individual’s mental well-being. I transitioned into Mental Health Counseling because of my passion for working with individuals and families to find a pathway to getting unstuck and navigating the unknown.

Many of us grow up thinking that our feelings, needs and wants don't matter, or that expressing them out loud is not safe. You may feel stuck in a loop of intense self-criticism, put on a mask to hide your true feelings, or avoid conflict by people-pleasing. Perhaps you are so critical of yourself that you feel "too self-aware," and are unsure of what the next step might be. If any of this resonates with you, I'm glad you're here and commend you for taking the first step.

Life presents challenges to us all, but when anxiety, depression, chronic pain, chronic health conditions and stressful life circumstances get in the way of living, people may need help to implement new coping strategies. Therapy need not be an extended process. Effective approaches are short-term whenever possible. A major focus is to provide evidence-based and compassion-focused approaches.

You're entering a space where you can be unapologetically you! That means you're free to laugh, cry, scream, and vent. I will be with you through each stage of emotion and I am going to challenge you to be in that moment, to feel, and to understand your emotions. I believe that healing begins when a client shows their authentic sense without worrying about being judged for what they are thinking or feeling. I believe that we are all capable of becoming the best version of ourselves even through our trials and tribulations. With the right attitude, motivation, and approach, growth and change will come.

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
