Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists in Queens Village, NY
One of the greatest gifts therapy has to offer is the empowerment and flexibility to move through and beyond your experiences. Together, therapy can be a space for reflection, discovery, skill building and greater understanding of self and the world around you. Exploring the pillars of a person's journey should be a holistic experience. As a practice, respecting one's personal, environmental, religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs can be a pathway to establish rich conversations while forming a relationship.

I like to have a client-focused integrative approach, where I implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Internal Family Systems ( IFS) techniques to teach emotional literacy, processing, and using action-oriented tools in treatment to address mood and emotional dysregulation, distorted self-talk, and better navigate relationship dynamics.

I specialize in working with people experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, loss, life transitions and planning, disability, and stress. When in treatment, I approach people by learning and understanding their difficulties through building emotional literacy to move towards identifying needs, building skills, and collaboratively develop a plan of action towards being their own healer.

By implementing Internal Family Systems ( IFS) with somatic techniques, my aim is for both of us to learn more about you and help you feel connected and grounded within yourself.
How would you describe yourself and your life right now? Maybe you have very clear vision of the changes you would like to make in your life, but you don't know how to get there. Or you might just know that something is off/not right and it's hard to know what that is, much less know how to address it. Either way, what you do know is that you'd like some support; but how do you even figure out what therapist or what modality to look at?! Think of the journey you're on as a bit of an interview/date-like experience: there will be a lot of requirements on paper, but at the end of the day, what matters is how the relationship feels.

Do people assume you have it all together, but you're struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression, or trauma that overwhelm your thoughts and emotions? Maybe you want to feel as confident and in control (on the inside) as other people think you are on the outside. You may look like you've got it all together, whether a mother or a corporate executive, but sometimes even the "strong one" needs support. I use an attachment-focused, trauma-informed, and intersectional approach to help you explore identity (race, gender, sexuality), family, and significant life events, so you can experience being heard, supported, and empowered.

I bring techniques from IFS, CBT and Motivational Interviewing to the session.
I work with people whose lives are changing. They are not afraid to get creative with their therapy. They want a mental health professional who will work with them to achieve balance. They might be dealing with college, or finishing high school. They might be figuring out a job or relationship. They want to understand why things hurt so badly or why they are so anxious. My education, training and experience comes to work for them. I bring experiences as a clinician, an artist, a teacher, a daughter, a sister, a partner, a friend, and a worker into the therapeutic experience.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
