Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists in Putnam Valley, NY
I draw from person-centered, existential, somatic, mindfulness-based, and parts-oriented approaches.
You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from yourself or your future. You might be living with anxiety, chronic stress, chronic pain, or psychosomatic symptoms, and feel worn down by pressure, uncertainty, or self-criticism. I work with individuals navigating life transitions, complex trauma (CPTSD), and mind–body conditions using a somatic approach informed by Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Hakomi. Together, we focus on building safety, reducing reactivity, and supporting a more grounded, connected relationship with your body and inner experience.

I believe in a person-centered, holistic approach to therapy, but I often integrate DBT, EMDR, TF-CBT, mindfulness, and forest therapy into my work.
Full/waitlist-only for weekly therapy. IADC and EMDR intensives still accepted.
You're tired, emotionally and physically. I support new mothers who are up at 3 a.m. wondering why they feel so sad when they thought this was supposed to be the happiest time of their life. I work with people who are grieving and are so tired of being told to “move on” when all they really want is to still feel connected to the person they lost (and yes, we can find ways to do that together). I work with young adults who have lost a parent and feel like no one else understands, and the thought of a college commencement is depressing, not exciting.

My approach is eclectic, using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to reframe unhelpful thoughts, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to foster meaningful change, and mindfulness techniques like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to build practical coping skills.
I believe that therapy is the journey of coming home to yourself. In our work together, we will begin the process of quieting down the external voices you may have internalized and learn to listen more closely to the part of yourself that truly knows what you most need. We will also focus on slowing down. By slowing down, we’ll identify what isn’t working and explore tools to help you grow, evolve, and feel more empowered. Therapy is a space to discover new ways of living and thriving as you move toward a deeper, more authentic version of yourself.

I also incorporate somatic and nervous system–based practices such as breathwork, mindfulness, bilateral or binaural sound techniques, and gentle movement. I work from the understanding that the body holds memory and that breath, movement, and sensation can help regulate the nervous system and reach places that language alone sometimes cannot.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
