That same issue keeps coming up, although you thought you'd solved it, many times before. You may feel misunderstood, confused, or overwhelmed. You're sure something else is going on, but can't put your finger on it. You may even get the sinking feeling that you've been in this relationship before... but with a different person. It's even more frustrating because you are so good at finding solutions everywhere else; but those same strategies keep falling short in your most important relationships. It makes sense that your energy for this is waning.

Maybe there's been a betrayal.
Relationships break down in specific ways, and healing them requires more than better communication tips. I work with couples and individuals through betrayal, intimacy issues, and the kind of disconnection that builds slowly until it's hard to find your way back. Sessions are honest, focused, and built around what you actually need to change.

I have worked with many populations: families with elderly parents, marital counseling stemming from infidelity, veterans, incarcerated inmates, in-patients with diagnosed mental illnesses, and more.
I work with the emotional needs of each person to feel the way we WANT to feel in our relationships with others- worthy, confident, and making a difference. These feelings don't happen in a vacuum, nor can they occur if we're feeling stagnant, anxious, or with a poor self confidence. We make the alliance to build on the foundation with one's own skills, together to make the changes to improve and to move forward in both personal and in relationships. Call me or email me at jsvallon@gmail.com and start the first step.

I believe everyone is capable of change. Change is a process, and it is not always an easy or a straight path. I believe it starts by knowing more about yourself so you can make the changes you want, and it can be useful to have a guide along the way. I will support you in your journey as someone who listens deeply, who cares about what has brought you to therapy and where you want to go. If you are feeling stuck, anxious, or unclear, I want to guide you to better understand what’s keeping you from moving forward.

Infidelity Therapists
How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
