So I'm very tuned into
women's issues
, including pregnancy, childrearing, menopause and the loss of a spouse through death or divorce.
People look for therapy because things have gone wrong. You might be stuck in repetitive old patterns that take the joy out of life. You might be overwhelmed by unexpected external events. Or you might have suffered an illness or the loss of an important person. I'm a compassionate, highly experienced therapist who can collaborate with you in understanding your issues and finding a way out of your problems.

Beginning therapy, whether you are going for the first time, or are restarting a process can feel difficult and even lonely. There is a never a "bad" time to take that first step, and finding the right therapist can help you make that long lasting change that you deserve. By building a relationship centered on safety, authenticity, and collaboration, I help to foster an environment where you can begin to explore, heal, and grow. My approach to psychotherapy is focused on finding a treatment that is tailored to your needs - not "one-size-fits-all."

We’ve been through a lot these past few years, maybe longer. You somehow are keeping it together, but it’s been a long time since you’ve felt you are thriving. Many of us are too anxious or distracted to experience life fully. Procrastination is interfering with doing the things you know would help. Perhaps resentment or dissatisfaction has taken over your relationships- Maybe your older child or adolescent is struggling, Or perhaps you are dealing with something more intense; gender questioning or transition; a history of trauma; a significant loss. You've been thinking about finding support, now maybe you're ready.

My approach is warm, empathic, and creative, and I utilize a collaborative therapeutic process informed by Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, and Masterson's psychotherapy theories. There are many reasons to come to therapy, and usually a person begins because something is bothering them, and they may be feeling "stuck". In therapy, you can work towards feeling better, improving the areas you are struggling in, and addressing the life obstacles that you may be facing. I believe each person brings their unique strengths to the process as well as issues they would like to resolve.

My approach is grounded in a deep appreciation and respect for each person's life journey and unique path toward healing, growth and wholeness. I take great care in fostering a safe, nonjudgmental, collaborative environment, with space to breathe and explore. When discomforting symptoms and difficult feelings arise, it is natural that we all want them to go away. But when we take a moment to slow down, to be peaceful and really listen, they are like honest friends helping us unfold what is wanting loving attention to grow. By listening closely together, we can get to the heart of your private struggles and engage your strengths.

Through therapy, my hope is to build a trusting partnership with you — one where we explore the best path forward together. I hope to provide a warm, empathic, supportive, non-judgmental, and safe space to explore the depth of your inner truth and help you actualize the life you envision for yourself. Together, we will explore past experiences, including family dynamics and your early life to provide insight into how you can cope with issues impacting you most now. I have found that, oftentimes, we are more resilient than we believe we are. My job is to support you as you harness that strength and find hope again.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
