I believe that I can be a source of help for people struggling with grief, depression, and anxiety.
I am looking to work with people who can partner in their treatment and who are invested in living their best life. At times, people may experience that their feelings and emotions are overwhelming. I believe that in partnering with an ally, there are no feelings, emotions, situations that are bigger than both of us together. I want to provide a perspective that emotional pain and suffering can be lessened.

Trauma, chronic stress and adversity can impact every aspect of overall wellbeing leaving you feeling overwhelmed, isolated and out of control of your thoughts and emotions. Healthy connections with safe and consistent people combined with a sense of self awareness and deepened understanding of our body and mind's reaction to events or circumstance can alleviate so many of these symptoms. When we can listen to our body's reaction and soothe the underlying need then we are able to have control over our reactions and regulate our emotions.

Taking the first step toward therapy takes courage, and I am so glad you are here. I have experience supporting children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma and adversity. Healing trauma is not just about changing how you think, it is about helping your nervous system feel safe again. I utilize the framework of Polyvagal Theory to understand your unique nervous system and ensure your body feels safe throughout the healing process. Together, we will uncover why you get stuck in fight, flight, or freeze, and use somatic tools to gently guide you back to a state of peace and connection. We will always go at your pace.

Often, our deepest wounds have relational origins. Whether this occurs through conflict, loss or formative experiences, exploring relational dynamics can be a portal into ways we feel stuck or struggle, often allowing new ways forward to surface.

I work with adults, children, and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief / loss, adoption / foster care challenges, family and relationship concerns, developmental & educational issues, aging and life transitions.
I recognize that unresolved trauma can quietly influence present-day struggles, and I enjoy helping clients uncover those patterns so they can move beyond simply managing symptoms and begin addressing the underlying causes. Some of my favorite moments in therapy are the "light bulb" moments, when clients gain new insight into themselves!

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
