Do you feel like you're doing it all on your own and it's just too much? I've been there... and I think we can all relate to that on some level. So you're thinking you may be ready to try something different? Looking here is a big place to start! We all can face personal struggles that are so intense, we begin to feel as though they will never end. Stepping outside of our comfort zone when reaching out for help may be the first and hardest step in the process. In my practice, I want to provide you that safe place to begin feeling comfortable in uncomfortable moments.

You are not alone as we partner together to explore, uncover and remove the obstacles that prevent you from becoming your best self and having the quality of life you long for. Using a psychodynamic framework to engage you, build hope, and establish a healing relationship, I specialize in dealing with the cumulative life stresses, traumas, griefs and losses that insidiously sabotage your best efforts, deplete your energy, tempt you into addictions to numb and avoid the pain life has brought you, or turn your long suffering into despair and depression.

Hello there! I work with children, teens and adults who want to improve emotional regulation in order to better cope with big feelings like anxiety, anger, and frustration, and who want to improve relationship dynamics with family and friends. The world is bright, loud, and there always seem to be people telling you what to do. For those who have experienced trauma or who are neurodivergent (autism and ADHD) this can lead to ongoing states of overwhelm, burnout, and even behavioral outbursts. Using trauma-informed, strength-based, and narrative practices I can help you understand the stories you tell about yourself and the world.

Research has consistently shown that the best predictor of positive outcomes in psychotherapy is the relationship between client and therapist. My philosophy is that psychotherapy should be a collaborative process between client and therapist that is guided by the client's self-defined goals. My style is direct, yet compassionate, and my ultimate goal is to help clients build self-awareness and self-understanding.

Why do so many couples choose Boice Counseling? I help couples similar to you get results, improve communication, reduce conflict and some are helped through an affair. Results are helpful if you, the couple, sustain the progress. You don’t need weekly sessions to do that. I help you prompt yourselves to sustain the gains and I reinforce the process with a feedback loop and boosters. We regularly evaluate progress and I show you how to do it without me. Quickly you know how to successfully get back on track. You, like me, value that. My practice is male-friendly, as well as female-friendly. Men feel comfortable and don't drop out.

It takes bravery to seek psychotherapy services as a step toward healing and growth. I've been a practicing psychotherapist since 2010 specializing in individual and couples therapy. My approach aims to help patients understand how early relationships influence life choices and current relationships. I then aid patients in identifying changes they want to make in their lives. We each occupy a unique intersection of race, social class, gender, sexual orientation, and personal history. I want to best understand how the world has related to you, while we also look deeply at how you relate to the world.

Many people spend years in therapy and still feel stuck. They can’t quite reach the root of their pain. Heartwork leads you there on a gentle, contemplative path inward. Together, we uncover the stories you’ve carried and the identities you’ve built to survive them. You’ve held onto them because they’ve quietly been shaping how you understand yourself and the world. Drawing from psychodynamic work, Zen and Diamond Approach inquiry, and energy work, Heartwork helps you see through your limiting beliefs so they lose their power. It leads you back to your own light so you can connect with who you truly are: clear, grounded, and free.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
