I take a holistic approach to mental wellness in my work with adults at all stages in life, incorporating somatic, harm reduction, and mindfulness strategies to improving quality of life.
When there is an imbalance in our lives, we may feel it in our emotional reactions, our bodies, our relational dynamics, and/or our outlook on life and the future. Many of us seek to cultivate deeper meaning, live with more intention, and bring about genuine connection. Finding space to ground, explore self with curiosity, and create greater alignment between self and community can be a first step to doing so.

I have training in Levels 1 & 2 of Gottman Method and just completed my Advanced year of Somatic Experiencing.
Life presents us with many challenges and stressors, and somewhere along the way we develop ways of meeting these challenges that may not be helpful long term. We can be left feeling disconnected from ourselves. You may find yourself stuck in patterns of overworking, overthinking, avoiding, trying to be perfect, and chronic stress. As a therapist, I want to help you understand why these unhelpful patterns developed and facilitate your innate capacity to grow and heal. I named my practice Waypoint Psychotherapy because I believe that therapy is a place to ground and orient, so you can continue your journey as your true self.

Being a human on this planet may bring difficulties that can impact how we live, how we love, how we work, and how we play. Life's challenges, losses, and traumas may have left you feeling lost, alone, disconnected, stuck, and unable to live to your fullest capacity, in spite of your best efforts. Challenges can exist in many areas: relationships, work, sense of identity, how you live in the world, even how you live in your own body. Sometimes you need a professional and non-judgmental ally to assist with restoring and preserving emotional and relational well-being, so that you can live more fully and authentically in the world.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
