I use a short term, practical psychotherapy approach. I believe that all human beings have problems at various points in their lives and that these problems can best be dealt with in an objective, honest, and caring climate. Labeling, stigmatizing and categorizing people often makes problems worse. Objective, and yet personal, individualized treatment approaches are always taken. While the goal of therapy is to minimize, if not eliminate, the problems people struggle against, it is also important to recognize, acknowledge, and enhance people's talents, abilities, and strengths. Client confidentiality is rigorously maintained at all times.
My orientation to psychotherapy is eclectic drawing heavily on family systems and narrative models which means that I recognize that problems affect not only individuals, but also the social systems the person participates in. The narrative approach recognizes that the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem.
My practice occurs in a non-institutional setting staffed only by me. Clients get my individual attention from the first phone call, through the counseling itself, and with any paperwork and billing.
