Depression, anxiety,
trauma
, and struggles with intimacy and relationships all have a profound impact on how we experience and negotiate our life's work.
Therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. What if you could find freedom from feelings of anxiety and depression. People are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion.

I utilize a
Trauma
-Focused, Psychodynamic model mixed with CBT and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist my clients as they heal and transform to become the best version of themselves.
Are you anxious more than ever, feeling “off” or “not like yourself” lately, facing relationship issues, or maybe you’re tired of holding everything in and ready to talk to someone? If you answered yes to any, you’ve come to the right place. In our sessions you will find that therapy is a meaningful conversation that takes place in a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgemental space where YOU set the pace and where we can identify conflict and options, make efforts toward self-growth, and pursue paths of change. My goal is to help you uncover your own motivation to change and empower you to be confident in the decisions you make.

My practice is informed by my holistic, humanistic and
trauma
-sensitive approach.
I understand the vulnerability of bringing the intimacies of your inner and outer world to another human being. And finding the “right” therapist is often a source of additional angst. The good news is that I have trained extensively to provide the safe and healing “holding space,” for you to come as you are, without fear of judgment. I will meet you with skill, understanding, and strategies to address current, past and/or future challenges. My typical client is high-functioning, but struggling in some aspect of life with issues like anxiety, low mood, unresolved
trauma
, or relationships. Congratulations on taking the first step!

Many of us will experience anxiety, depression, or
trauma
in our lifetime. We tend to carry these experiences silently and heavily weighed down by them, often leaving us feeling hopeless, exhausted, isolated, and unhappy. For some, they can also lead to significant mental health issues and unhelpful coping strategies. This pain is significant. Your suffering is real. And, if you're reading this, you've probably tried everything to fix it. You may have believed that nothing could change or get better. I am here to help you challenge those beliefs and provide you with a set of skills to help you cope with your distress.

I am a Psychologist in private practice working with individuals and couples, adolescents and adults. I have worked in many different clinical settings since 1968 and, for 38 years of private practice, have worked with a range of difficulties involving anxiety, depression, addictions, abuse, obsessions, parenting,
trauma and PTSD
, personality disorders and psychosis. One specialty has been using psychological testing to get a more accurate and detailed diagnostic picture of the issues, as just having a diagnosis is not enough and can result in misunderstanding and poor treatment.

trauma
related disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and co-occurrence of diagnoses.
No one should have to face life’s difficulties alone. My role is to guide, educate and support my clients to function more effectively in their lives. The foundation of my clinical practice is human connection and providing each client with a non-judgmental, safe and understanding place to be authentically vulnerable. I utilize an eclectic style, adjusting the therapeutic approach to best meet my client’s needs. I pull heavily from the fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and other emotionally focused approaches.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
