Some of my post-graduate trainings include family systems theory at the Ackerman Institute; REBT at the Albert Ellis Institute; sexuality at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy; EMDR Levels 1 , 2 and 3; AF-EMDR with Laurel Parnell, PhD; Mindfulness -Based Stress Reduction at NY Insight Meditation Center; Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy at NYCEF.
I understand the vulnerability of bringing the intimacies of your inner and outer world to another human being. And finding the “right” therapist is often a source of additional angst. The good news is that I have trained extensively to provide the safe and healing “holding space,” for you to come as you are, without fear of judgment. I will meet you with skill, understanding, and strategies to address current, past and/or future challenges. My typical client is high-functioning, but struggling in some aspect of life with issues like anxiety, low mood, unresolved trauma, or relationships. Congratulations on taking the first step!

I specialize in EMDR & favor approaches that address the connection between mental and physical well-being, which include somatic work, mindfulness , meditation, or breath-work.
Therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. What if you could find freedom from feelings of anxiety and depression. People are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion.

With each area of assistance I offer, the rewards of mindfulness , empowerment and ultimately self-realization are the goals to be pursued.
Welcome! Today is a really big day for you. You have made the decision to make a change in your life for the better. You are to be congratulated and supported for this. I bet it wasn't easy getting here. Making these changes can get very complicated and even painful along the way. Are you ready to take the necessary steps to be the change you are looking for? Do you want to be pushed passed your own zone of comfort and be willing to break new ground in the story of your life? If your answer is "yes" to these questions - then let's begin! Two things to consider... Nothing changes if nothing changes. Pain is the cornerstone of growth.

My theoretical orientation is integrative, which means I use a combination of humanistic, solution-focused, person-centered, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness based /contemplative approaches, stress management, and insight oriented techniques-depending on the needs of the client. I understand how critical the relationship between client and therapist is to the success of the therapeutic experience. As such, my hope always is to provide a warm, empathetic, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment-one in which my clients will feel safe and encouraged to build trust and work towards self-empowerment. To that end, I employ a collaborative, strengths-oriented approach.

I utilize mindfulness based interventions, EMDR, and Somatic Experience to work with layered trauma.
Many people wait too long to call a therapist. They are suffering and think things might get better on their own. By waiting people just feel worse or relationship issues become even more complicated. Psychotherapy helps you find new pathways for healing, untangling life's challenges to arrive at greater clarity and peace. I make that process as comfortable as possible by being authentically present, connected, & open. An active listener to the issues you bring forth. It is my goal to establish a collaborative alliance with you so we can enable positive change leading to a deep sense of well being.

Working from an extensive background in mindfulness practice, hypnotherapy, and clinical psychotherapy.
Often we find ourselves waiting. Waiting to be well, to be cared for, and to care for ourselves. The challenges we face, however big or small, are often opportunities to form a deeper connection to the things we want. Psychotherapy offers an experience to create an open space so that you can begin to explore and practice the thoughts, behaviors, and feelings that we seek to experience when working on our goals.

Art therapy has a lot to offer adults and older adults who are looking to improve how they cope and adapt to difficult challenges and events. For those creative and not, art therapy is an active form of psychotherapy where you can express and process difficult issues where words fall short. If you are seeking help for depression, anxiety, pain management, grief, coping with life transitions, self-esteem/self confidence issues, or difficulty coping with medical challenges, this form of treatment can be highly effective. I also specialize in working with older adults and people affected by dementia.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
