Wouldn't it be great to get the guidance and support you need to have more ease in your mind and body? To move through life's big challenges with confidence and resilience? The truth is most of us have accumulated feelings and beliefs from traumatic and hurtful experiences. We form all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms as a result, from inner conflicts and severe self-criticism to anxiety, depression, and broken relationships. The great thing is that these uncomfortable symptoms really get our attention and can call us to a more satisfying conscious life and a much improved version of ourselves. I am here to help you do this.

Stressful and traumatic events can happen to anyone. We cannot choose their timing or immediate impact on our ability to love, work, parent, or grow. In children, they can cause behavioral, academic, and interpersonal difficulties. Stress can get lodged in our bodies, making it very difficult to “just get over it.” However, even by considering psychotherapy, you are making a very important first step towards regaining control of your life. Making a choice to value your mental health is the key to getting back your feelings of agency, self-confidence, and sense of control of our own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

When will things get easier? When will I feel or function better? Life can be complicated and stressful, yet we are not meant to do it alone. You may be in the midst of a current crisis, or perhaps are deciding to confront issues that have been with you for a while. Many of my clients come in at first to talk about relationships or family conflict, feeling anxious or worried, being stuck or not sure what life path to take, or grieving the loss of something painful.

Therapy is a collaborative partnership that functions optimally when there is a positive, working alliance and authentic attachment between a client and therapist. Goals must be focused and must reflect the issues that are most compelling for the client. A therapist should be nonjudgmental, empathetic and present. Respect for each client's journey supports the development of trust and connection, allowing each client to develop a new and empowering narrative that helps them to reshape their lives.

As a MHC, I work with people from all backgrounds and ages, as well as couples. My approach encompasses a variety of methods, depending upon the best fit. There is a leaning towards Internal
Family Systems
; I am Level 1 certified. I am currently employed by The Inner Stage and am supervised by Certified Level III Trained Clinician, Valerie Simon, LCSW. However, psychodynamics and attachment theory often have a large influence. Adaptation and challenge have essential meaning for each unique case. My belief is that interaction should be well-paced. The client's agenda is key. My goal is for each client to become their own therapist.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
