Art therapy has a lot to offer adults and older adults who are looking to improve how they cope and adapt to difficult challenges and events. For those creative and not, art therapy is an active form of psychotherapy where you can express and process difficult issues where words fall short. If you are seeking help for depression, anxiety, pain management,
grief
, coping with life transitions, self-esteem/self confidence issues, or difficulty coping with medical challenges, this form of treatment can be highly effective. I also specialize in working with older adults and people affected by dementia.

The enormous number of stressors we now face daily are unreal: work, inflation, heat, despair, isolation, disconnection. All of this is tremendously difficult to manage on one's own. Anxiety, anger, depression, resentment, boredom. Zombie states, exhaustion, sadness, rage, denial. If you are struggling with any of this - or any of the other states that often bring people to therapy, like emptiness,
grief
, rigidity, feeling lost or overwhelmed, relationship issues, lack of direction - it's worth investing the time and effort to get help, get grounded and figure out a better path forward.

Whether your healing is from anxiety and depression, trauma, or
grief
and
loss
, the therapeutic journey will allow for hope to be found, even in the darkest places.
Searching for a therapist can be a very overwhelming process. Maybe you’ve tried therapy in the past and it didn’t work out, or perhaps this is your first time looking into therapy. One of the first things I like to do as a therapist is to get to know each other. It’s my opinion that having a therapist you’re able to trust and feel comfortable with is essential in building the therapeutic alliance. From there, we will assess your goals as well as your strengths to increase self-esteem and improve relationships.

Partnering with a trained psychotherapist who understands the nature of these issues can help. When you learn more about yourself by sorting through your thoughts & emotions, it can often lead to a more satisfying & meaningful life.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed out? Would you like to make changes in your life but feel stuck, unsure where to start or how to go about it? Do you have a transition in your life that you find yourself struggling with? Relationships, career changes, college/graduate school, parenthood, and caregiving/
loss
of parents are among the most common transitional stressors for people. Challenges in life can vary across the lifespan; at times, we may feel well-equipped to manage these challenges, and at other times, personal struggles, symptoms, or circumstances may impact our ability to manage the stresses that arise.

Are you looking to cultivate a deeper sense of calm? Are you finding that pervasive anxiety has taken control of your life? Are your child's anxious and avoidant behaviors creating an impossible dynamic in your family? In a time where we are expected to perform our roles, whatever they may be, with perfection, precision and speed, and our children are smothered with the unrelenting demands of this increasingly chaotic world, anxiety can become a constant and undesired companion. The time and attention it takes to gain greater understanding of ourselves and our children can feel overwhelming and out of reach.

Therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. What if you could find freedom from feelings of anxiety and depression. People are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion.

If you answered yes to any, you’ve come to the right place. In our sessions you will find that therapy is a meaningful conversation that takes place in a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgemental space where YOU set the pace and where we can identify conflict and options, make efforts toward self-growth, and pursue paths of change. My goal is to help you uncover your own motivation to change and empower you to be confident in the decisions you make.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
