I've facilitated workshops on "Facing Fears ", "Meditation", "Working with Dreams" and many others.
I have advanced post graduate training and over thirty years of experience as a Psychiatric Social Worker, therapist and supervisor. Caring, empathetic and professional treatment is tailored to the individual's or couples' needs. I believe we all have the resources available to deal with life's challenges but that they have to be tapped at times of need. I enjoy working with individuals and couples and believe that becoming a therapist is a calling; this shows in my work. If I cannot help you I can refer you to someone who can.

Therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. What if you could find freedom from feelings of anxiety and depression. People are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion.

The enormous number of stressors we now face daily are unreal: work, inflation, heat, despair, isolation, disconnection. All of this is tremendously difficult to manage on one's own. Anxiety , anger, depression, resentment, boredom. Zombie states, exhaustion, sadness, rage, denial. If you are struggling with any of this - or any of the other states that often bring people to therapy, like emptiness, grief, rigidity, feeling lost or overwhelmed, relationship issues, lack of direction - it's worth investing the time and effort to get help, get grounded and figure out a better path forward.

Many of us will experience anxiety , depression, or trauma in our lifetime. We tend to carry these experiences silently and heavily weighed down by them, often leaving us feeling hopeless, exhausted, isolated, and unhappy. For some, they can also lead to significant mental health issues and unhelpful coping strategies. This pain is significant. Your suffering is real. And, if you're reading this, you've probably tried everything to fix it. You may have believed that nothing could change or get better. I am here to help you challenge those beliefs and provide you with a set of skills to help you cope with your distress.

I am a Psychologist in private practice working with individuals and couples, adolescents and adults. I have worked in many different clinical settings since 1968 and, for 38 years of private practice, have worked with a range of difficulties involving anxiety , depression, addictions, abuse, obsessions, parenting, trauma and PTSD, personality disorders and psychosis. One specialty has been using psychological testing to get a more accurate and detailed diagnostic picture of the issues, as just having a diagnosis is not enough and can result in misunderstanding and poor treatment.

Wouldn't it be great to get the guidance and support you need to have more ease in your mind and body? To move through life's big challenges with confidence and resilience? The truth is most of us have accumulated feelings and beliefs from traumatic and hurtful experiences. We form all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms as a result, from inner conflicts and severe self-criticism to anxiety , depression, and broken relationships. The great thing is that these uncomfortable symptoms really get our attention and can call us to a more satisfying conscious life and a much improved version of ourselves. I am here to help you do this.

For those who have panic and phobias I have available a copyrighted treatment manual with a proven history of success.
Treatment begins in a relaxed setting within the context of a comfortable and safe relationship. Although past history and experiences certainly can play a role in contemporary problems, treatment starts in an active and directive way to help relieve the symptoms or distress that motivates treatment in the first place. This includes learning specific techniques and strategies to better manage symptoms and improve ones ability to function freely.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
