I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and EMDR trained clinician who specializes in Trauma & PTSD, Anxiety , Depression, and Mood Disorders.
Are you anxious more than ever, feeling “off” or “not like yourself” lately, facing relationship issues, or maybe you’re tired of holding everything in and ready to talk to someone? If you answered yes to any, you’ve come to the right place. In our sessions you will find that therapy is a meaningful conversation that takes place in a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgemental space where YOU set the pace and where we can identify conflict and options, make efforts toward self-growth, and pursue paths of change. My goal is to help you uncover your own motivation to change and empower you to be confident in the decisions you make.

Therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. What if you could find freedom from feelings of anxiety and depression. People are naturally motivated toward healing and recovery, and that an alliance with a supportive therapist, with whom you feel safe and comfortable, can facilitate this process. There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion.

In addition, I frequently work with problems like panic attacks, obsessions and compulsions, low self-esteem, complicated grief, and difficulties with self-expression.
Therapy like life is a journey. It helps us clarify the narrative of our lives. When we understand the past, we can improve the present and change the future. It helps us learn the tools to change our thoughts and behaviors, and cope with feelings. It gives us the skills to interact more successfully with others and feel more comfortable with ourselves. A therapist can guide us along this journey, pointing out landmarks that give us clues about why we repeatedly create outcomes we want to change. A therapist helps us map a new course toward the destinations we desire.

I understand the vulnerability of bringing the intimacies of your inner and outer world to another human being. And finding the “right” therapist is often a source of additional angst. The good news is that I have trained extensively to provide the safe and healing “holding space,” for you to come as you are, without fear of judgment. I will meet you with skill, understanding, and strategies to address current, past and/or future challenges. My typical client is high-functioning, but struggling in some aspect of life with issues like anxiety , low mood, unresolved trauma, or relationships. Congratulations on taking the first step!

I've facilitated workshops on "Facing Fears ", "Meditation", "Working with Dreams" and many others.
I have advanced post graduate training and over thirty years of experience as a Psychiatric Social Worker, therapist and supervisor. Caring, empathetic and professional treatment is tailored to the individual's or couples' needs. I believe we all have the resources available to deal with life's challenges but that they have to be tapped at times of need. I enjoy working with individuals and couples and believe that becoming a therapist is a calling; this shows in my work. If I cannot help you I can refer you to someone who can.

Limited availability for new patients. The enormous number of stressors we now face daily are unreal: politics, inflation, war, heat, pandemic fatigue, despair, disconnection, on and on. All of this is tremendously difficult to manage on one's own. Anxiety , anger, depression, resentment, boredom. Zombie states, exhaustion, sadness, rage, denial. If you are struggling with any of this - or any of the other states that often bring people to therapy, like emptiness, grief, rigidity, feeling lost or overwhelmed, relationship issues - it's worth investing the time and effort to get help, get grounded and figure things out.

Many of us will experience anxiety , depression, or trauma in our lifetime. We tend to carry these experiences silently and heavily weighed down by them, often leaving us feeling hopeless, exhausted, isolated, and unhappy. For some, they can also lead to significant mental health issues and unhelpful coping strategies. This pain is significant. Your suffering is real. And, if you're reading this, you've probably tried everything to fix it. You may have believed that nothing could change or get better. I am here to help you challenge those beliefs and provide you with a set of skills to help you cope with your distress.

Good therapy is an exploration of the self. People seek therapy to manage that which ails them, whether it be anxiety , depression, phobias, etc. Yet these are merely symptoms, and good therapy seeks the discovery of their root cause so that true healing may begin.

Wouldn't it be great to get the guidance and support you need to have more ease in your mind and body? To move through life's big challenges with confidence and resilience? The truth is most of us have accumulated feelings and beliefs from traumatic and hurtful experiences. We form all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms as a result, from inner conflicts and severe self-criticism to anxiety , depression, and broken relationships. The great thing is that these uncomfortable symptoms really get our attention and can call us to a more satisfying conscious life and a much improved version of ourselves. I am here to help you do this.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
