Therapy offers a transformative experience that can lead to a more satisfying and meaningful life. Starting therapy takes courage and finding a therapist who fits can be difficult. I approach therapy with an open mind and a commitment to deep listening, compassion, and insightful exploration.

Do you want to feel confident in yourself & your relationship with loved ones? Maybe you're a self identified perfectionist or people pleaser, struggle to say no or express yourself. You try to keep the peace, so you avoid conflict, put others first, & are stuck in a vicious cycle of bottling your emotions at the cost of internal peace. Only so much can be swept under the rug before it seeps out in other ways: Often anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem. Together we will process the past to build a better future. From family to intimate partners, friendships, & most importantly the relationship with yourself, I am here to help.

I support parents, adolescents, young adults, couples, and adults who find themselves overwhelmed, uncertain, anxious, or carrying something they're not quite sure how to describe. It's common for people to come to therapy without a clear sense of what they need — only a feeling that things aren't working the way they'd like.

I have particular experience in parenting issues, relationship issues, and codependency.
I have been working as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for almost 30 years. I began my career doing play therapy with young children. While I loved that, I discovered that there is so much more to be explored in therapy when working with a variety of age groups. Over the years I have worked with many different ages and populations and I feel as though I’ve learned from my clients as much as they have learned from me. I believe that the connection that you have with your therapist is the first step to meeting any goal. While I often take a direct approach with my clients, I also tell them, “my goals can’t be your goals."

I believe that the changes that occur through therapy are linked to the relationship between client and therapist and the client's development of insight. People come to therapy feeling unsure and insecure, repeating the same frustrating patterns again and again without the outcomes they hope for. We will work together to help you move out of unhealthy cycles that are no longer serving you. I have trained in and utilize multiple approaches, but primarily draw from Psychodynamic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy.

You’re the one everyone relies on. The capable one. But putting yourself first feels uncomfortable—maybe even selfish. I work with women navigating family and friendship stress, relationship challenges, dating anxiety, and patterns of people-pleasing. I provide individual therapy for women wanting to set boundaries, build assertiveness, and have hard conversations—women who want to feel more confident, regain their self-worth, and be empowered not only in their relationships but also in the way they live their lives.

I work with both couples and individuals, and have a collaborative approach that leaves room for humor amidst intensity and gentleness amidst accountability. I am a member of a sex therapy private practice based in Brooklyn, and I work comfortably with topics like pelvic pain, different desire levels between partners, sexual and relational trauma, and feeling disconnected from pleasure or from the body entirely. Although conversations about sex and gender are staples in my clinical work, I do ample work around general mental health, including ADHD, anxiety, grief, and layered cultural identities whether mixed, adopted, or migrated.

No art making necessary. I believe therapy should evolve with you by respecting your pace, experiences, and readiness for change. My approach draws from a range of evidence-based modalities, and I integrate creativity, insight, and humor to foster a space that feels both supportive and engaging. I maintain a laid-back, grounded presence while also being direct when necessary. My active listening allows me to hear patterns in the way you formulate thoughts, bringing awareness to how these play a role in our overall processing.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
